Humly are recruiting for a full-time Year 1 Teaching Assistant to work at a primary school in Blackburn from September 2026.

This Year 1 Teaching Assistant role is ideal for someone who enjoys supporting children in Key Stage 1 and can provide confident classroom support across early reading, writing, phonics, numeracy and daily routines. There will also be some children with additional needs in the class, so the school needs a calm, patient and proactive Teaching Assistant who can support pupils with learning, confidence and engagement.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be supporting a Year 1 class with:

  • General KS1 classroom support
  • Early literacy, phonics, numeracy and wider learning activities
  • Small-group support and individual pupil support
  • Supporting children with SEN and additional needs within the class
  • Helping pupils stay focused, confident and engaged
  • Supporting classroom routines and positive behaviour
  • Working closely with the class teacher and wider primary school team

You’ll Be a Good Fit If You…

  • Have experience as a Teaching Assistant, Primary Teaching Assistant, KS1 Teaching Assistant or classroom support assistant
  • Are confident supporting pupils in Year 1 or Key Stage 1
  • Can support phonics, early reading, writing and numeracy activities
  • Have experience supporting children with SEN or additional needs
  • Are calm, patient, proactive and reliable
  • Can support individual pupils, small groups and the wider class
  • Are able to commit to a full-time academic year role from September
  • Have an enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or are willing to apply for one
  • Are willing to complete Humly’s safeguarding and compliance process before placement
