Would you like to help young people develop employment skills, build confidence and thrive in work experience placements?

This national charity runs rolling five-month programmes in Norwich, supporting young people aged 16–18 to develop the skills and experience they need to move towards employment.

Each programme combines classroom-based learning in English, maths, functional skills and employability with 100 hours of work experience at local employers across Norfolk.

Your role will involve:

  • Employability support: Provide ongoing employability support throughout the programme. The first five weeks focus on developing employment skills through one-to-one sessions and group work, covering CV writing, job searching, interview techniques and preparing for the workplace.
  • Workplace support: Visit young people during their work experience placements, helping them understand their day-to-day responsibilities and develop workplace skills such as communication, attendance and professional conduct.
  • Employer relationships: Liaise with placement employers, gather feedback and help ensure placements are successful for both the young person and the employer.
  • Employer engagement: Research and approach local employers who may be willing to offer work experience opportunities. The charity already has a strong network of employers, and you'll receive support from an Employer Engagement Manager to help grow this further.
  • Ongoing support: Provide follow-on support to young people once they have completed the programme.

Who will you be supporting?

You'll typically manage a caseload of around 30 young people at any one time.

While the learners do not have EHCPs, the majority have some form of special educational need (SEN), and many come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The charity works with a fantastic variety of local employers, including zoos, animal sanctuaries, blood clinics and major retailers. Wherever possible, placements are matched to each young person's interests and aspirations.

It's a varied and rewarding role where you'll see the difference your support makes, both in the classroom and out in the workplace.

Location

The office is based on Prince of Wales Road in Norwich city centre, approximately five minutes' walk from the train station.
A driving licence would be ideal, given the need to visit employers and placements across Norfolk, but it isn't essential.

Who are we looking for?

We're interested in hearing from people with experience in employability, youth work, education, supported employment or helping young people develop their confidence and independence.
Experience building relationships with employers would also be useful.
