We are supporting a highly regarded independent school in Surrey to recruit a compassionate and dedicated 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to work closely with a named pupil in Key Stage 2.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to a child's educational experience, providing tailored support that helps them thrive academically, socially and emotionally. The role is ideal for someone with experience supporting children with additional needs, particularly autism and/or ADHD.
The Role
As a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, you will provide consistent, structured support throughout the school day, helping a pupil access learning, develop independence and build confidence. You'll work closely with teaching staff, parents and specialist professionals to ensure the child receives the support they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a named pupil
- Support learning, organisation, attention and task completion
- Help develop confidence, independence and positive learning habits
- Assist with emotional regulation and transitions throughout the day
- Encourage positive social interaction and communication skills
- Maintain accurate records and observations
- Liaise effectively with teachers, parents and external professionals
- Support the pupil during lunchtime and other supervised activities
- Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment
What We're Looking For
- Experience supporting children on a 1:1 basis
- Understanding of autism, ADHD and associated learning needs
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to remain calm, patient and encouraging
- Good observation and record-keeping skills
- Flexible, proactive and able to adapt to changing needs
- Commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing
Desirable
- Experience within a primary school setting
- Knowledge of sensory processing needs
- Experience using visual timetables, social stories or similar strategies
- Training in ELSA, Team Teach or positive behaviour support approaches
