Are you a patient, nurturing, and dedicated Teaching Assistant looking to make a genuine difference to a child's educational journey?

We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive Primary School in Sutton Coldfield. This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm, with an immediate start available for the successful candidate.

This rewarding role will involve supporting a child within a Year 2 classroom who is currently working below age-related expectations and requires additional support to access learning and achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping the child develop academically, socially, and emotionally throughout the school day.

The Role

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher, SENDCO, and wider school staff to provide tailored support designed around the individual needs of the child. You will be responsible for adapting learning materials, encouraging engagement in classroom activities, and helping to build the child's confidence and independence.

The ideal candidate will understand that every child learns differently and will be able to use their creativity, patience, and adaptability to ensure the pupil remains motivated and supported throughout their learning journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil throughout the school day.
  • Support the child in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities.
  • Adapt and modify learning resources to suit the child's individual learning needs and ability level.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher to implement learning strategies and interventions.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and support the child's emotional wellbeing.
  • Promote the development of social skills, confidence, and independence.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff where appropriate.
  • Support during classroom lessons, group activities, breaktimes, and transitions.
  • Build a positive, trusting, and supportive relationship with the child and their family where appropriate.
  • Maintain safeguarding and child protection standards at all times.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children in a school or classroom-based setting.
  • A caring, patient, and nurturing approach.
  • The ability to adapt learning activities and support strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to become part of the school community.
  • A good understanding of child development and learning.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a wider team.

Desirable Requirements

  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Childcare, Teaching Assistant, or Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification.
  • Experience supporting children with additional learning needs.
  • Knowledge of intervention strategies that support literacy and numeracy development.
  • Experience providing 1:1 support within a primary school environment.

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
