A well-established and successful business in Ferndown is looking for an organised and detail-focused Accounts Assistant to join their finance team on a permanent, part-time basis. This is a varied role supporting the day-to-day running of the accounts function, with responsibility across purchase and sales ledger, credit control, reconciliations, cash flow forecasting and payroll-related accounts.
The company can offer flexibility around the working hours, with approximately 20–25 hours per week available. The successful candidate will be required to work on site each day, making this an ideal opportunity for someone looking for a part-time role within a friendly and professional working environment.
Duties for the successful Accounts Assistant:
- Enter daily financial transactions and allocate payments and receipts accurately
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date purchase and sales ledgers
- Process supplier and customer invoices in a timely manner
- Investigate and resolve account discrepancies
- Monitor aged debtors and chase outstanding or overdue balances
- Send customer statements as required
- Reconcile bank statements, customer accounts and supplier accounts
- Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts
- Reconcile and prepare monthly salary accounts
- Assist with month-end reporting
- Liaise with internal departments to resolve account queries
- Provide support with general finance administration and ad hoc tasks
- Ensure supplier payment runs are completed in line with agreed payment terms
- Ensure month-end reports are prepared accurately and on time
- Monitor outstanding monies and assist with maintaining low levels of aged debt
- Previous experience in a similar Accounts Assistant role
- Experience using an accounting system such as Sage or Xero is essential
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
- Good numerical and analytical skills
- Experience with purchase and sales ledger processes
- Experience with bank and account reconciliations
- Experience of credit control and chasing outstanding payments
- GCSE Maths and English are essential
- Good IT skills and confidence using accounting systems
- Strong communication skills
- Able to manage deadlines and prioritise workload effectively
- Reliable, organised and able to work independently
- A proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues
- Part AAT qualified would be desirable but is not essential
£15.00 per hour | 20–25 hours per week | Monday to Friday | Office-based
