Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Invasive Cardiac Physiologist in Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to join the Linby Cardiology Department at Nottingham City Hospital. You will be responsible for working as a key member of the Invasive Cardiology Physiology Team, delivering a professional service that meets the needs of the Directorate and the wider clinical requirements of the Trust. You will support the delivery of invasive cardiology services by performing highly specialised physiological tests to inform clinical diagnosis and support treatment, interpreting clinical data to produce accurate clinical reports, and undertaking advanced physiological tests and procedures as required.

Main duties of the job

As an Advanced Invasive Cardiac Physiologist, you will be responsible for providing clinical supervision and training to trainee staff and other healthcare professionals, while maintaining your continuing professional development. You will be managing and contributing to clinical audit, research and development activities, as well as supporting departmental training programmes and service improvements. You will undertake designated responsibilities including team leadership, ordering and stock control, and contribute to the effective organisation and development of the department over the short and long term. You will also provide assistance and troubleshooting to colleagues when required, work across both Trust sites as necessary, and participate in the departmental on-call rota.

Job Roles & Responsibilities

  • To perform a comprehensive range of highly specialised invasive cardiac investigations, including Percutaneous Coronary Intervention procedures such as IVUS, OCT, pressure wire and rotational atherectomy, together with cardiac device implantation and in-house and remote follow-up.
  • To demonstrate advanced technical proficiency throughout invasive procedures, using specialist knowledge, initiative and professional judgement to identify and resolve technical issues and determine when concerns require escalation.
  • To provide specialist advice to clinicians regarding procedural findings and physiological results, ensuring relevant technical information is communicated clearly to support appropriate clinical decision-making.
  • To develop expertise within a designated area of invasive cardiology, contributing specialist knowledge to the advancement of practice and supporting the effective implementation of relevant service changes.
  • To apply Trust and local policies, protocols and professional standards in all areas of practice, while exercising appropriate judgement when dealing with complex situations and maintaining effective communication with relevant colleagues.
  • To promote health and safety by taking reasonable care of patients, colleagues and others, using protective equipment appropriately, and promptly reporting hazards, accidents, incidents or deficiencies in safety procedures through the required channels.

Person Specification & Qualification

  • BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent, with relevant postgraduate qualification or working towards one.
  • Competent in interventional cardiac cath lab procedures and cardiac device follow-up.
  • Experience in structural cardiology procedures and device implantation is advantageous.
  • AHCS voluntary register accreditation is desirable.
  • Relevant professional accreditation such as IBHRE, BHRS, MSC, MSCT or ASCST is desirable.
