Lead and shape a high-performing Development Management Service within a leading Midlands Local Authority. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced senior planning professional to manage an area-based planning team, oversee complex applications and support the delivery of strategic service objectives.
 
Key responsibilities:
· Manage and lead a professional Development Management team, providing guidance, mentoring and support
· Oversee planning applications, including large and complex proposals
· Lead the management and presentation of applications to planning committees
· Provide strategic planning advice to Members, senior officers, applicants and key stakeholders
· Deputise for the Planning and Development Services Manager when required
· Manage performance, resources and workloads to ensure an effective planning service
· Prepare committee reports and represent the Council at hearings, inquiries and other meetings
· Support strategic development projects and drive continuous service improvement
 
Requirements:
· Significant Local Authority planning experience at a senior management level
· Strong knowledge of Development Management, planning legislation and regulatory processes
· Experience leading and developing professional planning teams
· Experience managing complex planning applications and presenting to committees
· Confidence representing a Council at appeals, hearings or public inquiries
· Ability to build strong relationships with Members, developers and key stakeholders
