ASSET MANAGER – FORKLIFT TRUCKS & MATERIAL HANDLING
Location: West Midlands
Salary: £55,000 + Bonus + Company Vehicle
Contract: Permanent, Full Time
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Asset Manager to join an established and growing business operating within the forklift and materials handling sector.
This is a newly created position offering an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in forklift trucks, plant, access equipment or similar capital equipment to take ownership of a substantial fleet and play a key role in improving asset utilisation, condition, availability and value.
THE ROLE
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will take responsibility for the company's asset management function, working closely with Sales, Operations and Workshop teams.
The role combines strategic fleet management with hands-on engineering knowledge, including regular physical inspections of equipment.
As this is a newly created position, there is significant scope for the successful candidate to develop and improve the systems, processes and reporting used to manage the company's assets.
The role will also involve travel to other UK locations when required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create and maintain a central database covering company assets, rental equipment and machines available for sale.
- Ensure asset information and equipment records remain accurate and up to date.
- Work closely with Sales, Operations and Workshop teams to ensure available machinery is effectively managed.
- Carry out physical inspections of forklift trucks and other equipment.
- Assess machinery condition, wear and structural integrity.
- Photograph and accurately record damage and condition of assets.
- Assist the Sales team with sourcing equipment where suitable machinery is not currently available.
- Review fleet age, composition and utilisation to ensure it remains commercially effective.
- Work with Sales and Operations to ensure rental fleet costs, maintenance requirements and residual values are appropriately managed.
- Develop relationships with trade customers to support the effective disposal of used equipment.
- Produce asset performance and fleet utilisation reports for senior management.
- Identify opportunities to improve asset utilisation, processes and overall fleet performance.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for an organised and commercially aware individual with a strong understanding of forklift trucks or similar capital equipment.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience within the forklift, materials handling, plant, access equipment or similar capital equipment sector.
- A good understanding of machinery condition, maintenance and asset values.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Good Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- The ability to analyse and maintain large amounts of asset information.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
- A commercial approach to asset utilisation and disposal.
- A willingness to travel to other UK locations when required.
- A full, clean UK driving licence.
