Assistant Accountant

Trinity House Group Ltd

Assistant Accountant
This business is growing fast, and a run of recent acquisitions means they've just created a brand new role in the finance team to keep up. You'll be joining at the ground level of something genuinely new, with the processes, systems and ways of working still being built out around you. It's a temp to perm role with a real, confirmed date for conversion at the six month mark.
The right person here has proper hands-on exposure to double-entry bookkeeping and genuinely understands how debits and credits work, not just how to tick off a reconciliation. You'll need to be comfortable posting journal entries and correcting them when something doesn't add up, and confident working through bank reconciliations without needing much guidance. The reason this is a temp to perm role is because they need someone quite quickly to help with the transition of a recent acquisition, so please only apply if you're immediately available or on a short notice period.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Posting journal entries across multiple bank accounts, making sure every transaction is accurately reflected in the ledger
  • Correcting postings when something's gone wrong, using a proper understanding of debits and credits rather than just adjusting the number
  • Completing regular bank reconciliations across several accounts, matching cash and identifying differences as they come up
  • Investigating discrepancies until you understand exactly what caused them, not just resolving the symptom
  • Applying genuine double-entry bookkeeping principles as part of your everyday work, not just running reports
  • Supporting the month-end close and resolving reconciliation queries as they arise
  • Helping build and refine processes as the finance function continues to grow around you
  • Working closely with the wider finance team on broader month-end tasks and process improvements
  • Getting involved in ad hoc process improvement projects as the business continues to grow through acquisition
  • Being one of the first people to shape how this role actually works, since it's brand new

What We Need From You
  • Genuine, hands-on exposure to double-entry bookkeeping, not just reconciliation experience
  • A confident, practical understanding of debits and credits and how entries affect the wider ledger
  • Comfortable posting journal entries and correcting them when something's wrong
  • Strong Excel skills, including formulas and VLOOKUPs
  • A naturally methodical, detail-focused approach to reconciliation work
  • Confident working independently, without needing much day-to-day guidance
  • Available immediately or on a short notice period
  • Genuinely excited by the idea of joining a growing business and helping shape a brand new role from scratch

What's in it for you
  • A confirmed path to a permanent role at the six month mark
  • Genuine input into shaping a brand new position within a growing business
  • Exposure to a business actively growing through acquisition, with all the variety that brings
  • Real ownership over how your own role develops
  • Being part of a finance team at an exciting stage of growth
  • The chance to build something from the ground up rather than inherit someone else's way of doing things
