Your new role
As Assistant Finance Business Partner, you'll join the Finance Business Partnering team and work closely with a varied portfolio of stakeholders, acting as a key point of contact for budget holders.This is a broad role that goes beyond traditional management accounting. You'll help stakeholders understand their financial performance and support effective decision-making through financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and regular reporting.
Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting budget holders with budgeting, forecasting and financial planning.
• Producing and interpreting monthly and quarterly financial information.
• Building effective relationships with finance and non-finance stakeholders.
• Helping budget holders understand performance, variances and financial information.
• Providing proactive financial support and insight across your allocated areas.
• Supporting research and grant activity, including monitoring external funding.
• Helping ensure funding is used in accordance with relevant conditions and required outputs are achieved.
• Working collaboratively within the wider finance function while managing your own responsibilities effectively.

What you'll need to succeed
You'll be an ambitious finance professional with a solid accounting background and meaningful experience within management accounting or a similarly broad finance position.You should be able to demonstrate:

• AAT qualification or a relevant part-qualified accounting background.
• Good practical experience of budgeting and forecasting.
• Experience producing and interpreting financial or management information.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• The confidence to work proactively with non-finance colleagues and budget holders.
• Good Excel and general analytical skills, with strong attention to detail.
• An approachable, professional and proactive attitude.
• The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a close-knit team.

Experience of external funding or research grants would be advantageous, but direct experience of funding claims is not essential.
