Role Purpose
We are seeking a driven and commercially minded Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team. Working alongside a Senior Commercial Manager or Quantity Surveyor, you will assist in managing the financial performance of complex structural and civil engineering projects. Key Responsibilities

Commercial Support: Assist in the day-to-day commercial management of live projects, ensuring cost control and profitability tracking.

Subcontractor Management: Help prepare subcontractor tender packages, analyze incoming quotes, assist with procurement, and measure variations.

Valuations & Variations: Support the preparation of monthly interim valuations, progress assessments, and the identification/pricing of project variations.

Cost Reporting: Assist in compiling accurate monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) and financial forecasts.

Site Measurement: Visit sites to carry out accurate material take-offs and progress measurements against architectural and engineering drawings.

Records Maintenance: Maintain rigorous contemporary records, drawing registers, and commercial documentation to support contract compliance.
Skills & Qualifications

Education: Degree or HND/HNC in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related construction discipline (or actively working towards completion).

Experience: 1–3 years of experience working as a Trainee or Assistant QS, ideally within a specialist sub-contractor, civil engineering, or RC frame environment.

Technical Skills: Strong numeracy and IT skills, with proficiency in MS Excel and construction cost-management software. Ability to accurately read and interpret structural drawings.

Contract Knowledge: Exposure to standard construction contracts, specifically NEC4 or JCT, is highly advantageous.

Attributes: High attention to detail, strong communication skills for interfacing with site teams and subcontractors, and a proactive attitude toward problem-solving.
