A well-established and growing engineering consultancy is looking to appoint an Associate Geotechnical Director to join its team in Reading. This is a senior opportunity for an experienced geotechnical professional looking to take on greater technical, commercial and leadership responsibility.

The successful candidate will play a key role in leading geotechnical projects, developing client relationships and supporting the continued growth of the geotechnical team.



The Role

  • Lead and manage a varied portfolio of geotechnical projects from feasibility through to delivery.
  • Provide senior technical input across ground investigation, foundations, earthworks, slopes and geotechnical design.
  • Undertake and review geotechnical assessments, interpret ground investigation data and provide technical recommendations.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers and consultants.
  • Manage project budgets, programmes and resources.
  • Liaise directly with clients, contractors and other engineering disciplines.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, specifications and design documentation.
  • Support business development, fee proposals and client relationship management.
  • Identify opportunities to develop new and existing client relationships.
  • Contribute to the strategic development and growth of the geotechnical team.


About You

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant UK geotechnical consultancy experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge across areas such as foundations, earthworks, retaining structures and ground investigation.
  • Chartered Engineer status with ICE or a similar professional body.
  • Proven experience managing projects and leading technical teams.
  • Strong commercial awareness and client-facing experience.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Experience with geotechnical design software would be advantageous.
  • A track record of winning work and developing client relationships would be highly desirable.
