Attendance Officer - Secondary School

A welcoming and inclusive Secondary School in Perry Barr, Birmingham is seeking an experienced and committed Attendance Officer to join its pastoral team from the beginning of the new academic year in September 2026.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate Attendance Officer to make a real difference to the lives of young people by promoting excellent attendance, supporting student wellbeing, and working closely with families to remove barriers to learning.

The Role

As Attendance Officer, you will play a vital role in helping students develop positive attendance habits and ensuring they are fully engaged in their education.

Working as part of a dedicated pastoral and safeguarding team, you will support students and families, monitor attendance data, identify concerns, and implement effective interventions to improve attendance and punctuality across the school.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and analysing attendance data.
  • Following up on student absences and punctuality concerns.
  • Working closely with students and families to improve attendance.
  • Conducting attendance interventions and supporting early help strategies.
  • Liaising with teaching staff, pastoral teams, safeguarding leads, and external agencies.
  • Supporting wider pastoral provision across the school.
  • Maintaining accurate attendance records and reports.
  • Helping to promote a culture of high attendance and positive engagement in learning.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will:

  • Have previous experience as an Attendance Officer, Attendance Administrator, Pastoral Officer, Family Support Worker, or similar role within a school environment.
  • Be self-motivated, organised, and compassionate.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be confident working with students, parents, carers, and external professionals.
  • Have strong administration, data management, and IT skills.
  • Be professional, approachable, and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Have a good standard of literacy and written communication.
  • Be committed to supporting student welfare, safeguarding, and educational outcomes.
