Location: Bromsgrove, B60
Pay: £19.00 PAYE / £25.00 Umbrella
Hours: Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm
Contract: Temporary sickness cover, initially for up to three to four months
Hybrid working: Potentially 2–3 days from home once fully trained

We are recruiting an experienced Income Officer for a well-established social housing provider.

The role involves managing rent accounts, recovering arrears and supporting customers to sustain their tenancies. You will initially work from the office, with hybrid working potentially available once you are familiar with the organisation’s processes.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage current and former-tenant rent accounts and arrears cases.
  • Identify financial difficulties and take early action to prevent arrears escalating.
  • Agree realistic and sustainable repayment arrangements.
  • Set up payment methods, including Direct Debits.
  • Advise customers about Housing Benefit, Universal Credit and financial support.
  • Support vulnerable customers and make appropriate referrals.
  • Prepare legal notices, witness statements, court papers and case files.
  • Present rent-arrears cases independently at court without legal representation.
  • Recommend appropriate court outcomes and challenge decisions where necessary.
  • Attend evictions when required.
  • Complete occasional home visits across Bromsgrove and surrounding areas.
  • Maintain accurate case notes and comply with GDPR and safeguarding requirements.
  • Work with internal teams, DWP, local authorities, Citizens Advice, courts and solicitors.

About you

  • Previous income management or rent-arrears experience within social housing.
  • Strong court attendance and advocacy experience.
  • Knowledge of the Pre-Action Protocol and possession proceedings.
  • Experience supporting vulnerable customers.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and organisational skills.
  • Experience using Aareon QL or Mobysoft RentSense is highly desirable.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to an appropriately insured vehicle are essential.
  • A basic DBS check will be required.
