Avionics/Electrical Wiring & Installation Designer in Salford

We’re looking for an experienced Avionics/Electrical Wiring & Installation Designer to join our Aerospace Engineering team. Working within our Aerospace Division it will include supporting various customers as well as integrating into our UK CAA Part 21J Design Organisation (DOA) environment. You will support the design, development and certification of aircraft avionics and electrical system modifications and installations.

This is an opportunity to combine hands-on technical design with customer collaboration, airworthiness and certification activities within a growing aerospace engineering consultancy.

We’re looking for an Avionics/Electrical Wiring & Installation Designer to deliver aircraft modification and installation solutions across our aerospace programmes.

Working alongside our Chief Engineers, Technical Team Leads and wider engineering community, you’ll develop complete engineering design packages for aircraft avionics and electrical systems.

You’ll work across the engineering lifecycle, from initial requirements and aircraft surveys through to detailed design, certification, installation and testing, ensuring solutions meet customer requirements and applicable airworthiness standards.

What You’ll Do

As an Avionics/Electrical Wiring & Installation Designer, you’ll support the development and delivery of aircraft modification and installation projects, including:

• Developing complete engineering design packages for aircraft avionics and electrical system modifications and installations
• Producing wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, harness drawings and loom installation drawings
• Developing avionics and electrical installation designs in accordance with customer, regulatory and airworthiness requirements
• Using electrical CAD tools such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Siemens Capital Logic, Zuken or equivalent
• Carrying out Electrical Load Analysis (ELA) and supporting associated technical assessments
• Reviewing OEM Service Bulletins, vendor STCs and installation data packages
• Interpreting aircraft electrical and avionics architectures to develop practical modification solutions
• Working directly with customer avionics and electrical engineering teams to understand requirements and resolve technical challenges
• Supporting airworthiness and certification activities within a UK CAA Part 21J DOA environment
• Ensuring design activities are undertaken in accordance with applicable DOA procedures and technical governance requirements
• Providing engineering support during aircraft modification and installation activities
• Supporting fault-finding and resolving technical issues during installation and testing
• Liaising with vendors and suppliers regarding technical requirements and equipment integration
• Supporting prototype installations, testing and aircraft surveys where required
• Preparing technical documentation, engineering reports and design records
• Providing technical input into bids and future aerospace programmes
• Supporting and mentoring less experienced engineers and designers where appropriate
• Contributing to continuous improvement across engineering processes and technical standards
• Working in accordance with the Morson Praxis Safety Management System (SMS)
• Some travel may be required for customer meetings, aircraft surveys, prototype installations and on-site technical support.

What We’re Looking For

Experience in aircraft avionics and/or electrical wiring and installation design

Experience producing wiring diagrams, schematics, harness drawings and installation drawings

Electrical CAD experience using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Siemens Capital Logic, Zuken or similar

Good understanding of aircraft electrical and avionics architecture, modification and installation

Knowledge of airworthiness and certification requirements, ideally within a Part 21J Design Organisation

Ability to interpret technical information including wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, maintenance manuals and aircraft technical documentation

Experience supporting aircraft installation, modification, integration or testing activities

Knowledge of commercial and/or military aircraft electrical and avionics systems

Strong technical problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with customers and multidisciplinary engineering teams

Relevant qualification in Avionics, Electrical, Aeronautical Engineering or a related discipline

Previous leadership, mentoring or technical governance experience would be advantageous
