Cardiac Physiologist – Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust
Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cardiac Physiologist to join the Cardiac Outpatients Department at Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. The role involves performing a range of cardiac diagnostic investigations, supporting routine and complex cardiac assessments, and delivering high standards of patient care. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will manage daily diagnostic workloads, contribute to efficient cardiology services, and support care delivery across Trust locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently perform and interpret 12-lead ECGs, escalating significant findings according to departmental protocols.
- Analyse ambulatory cardiac rhythm recordings and produce factual reports to support clinical decision-making.
- Review event and blood pressure monitoring data, referring abnormal results when necessary.
- Support and, following competency-based training, lead exercise tolerance testing procedures.
- Assist with haemodynamic monitoring and invasive cardiac investigations within the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory.
- Prepare procedure rooms, equipment, and consumables for implantable loop recorder implantation sessions.
- Participate in cardiac rhythm device services, including device follow-up clinics, remote monitoring, and supervised pacing clinics.
- Carry out daily checks of resuscitation equipment and report any issues.
- Maintain accurate patient records using electronic patient administration and cardiology information systems.
- Adhere to Trust policies, professional standards, infection prevention measures, and clinical governance requirements.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and organised clinical environment.

Essential Requirements
- Degree in Cardiac Physiology, Healthcare Science (PTP), or equivalent qualification (or due to qualify this year).
- Experience in ECG recording, interpretation, and cardiac monitor analysis.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Experience using patient administration systems.
- Strong communication, organisational, and time-management skills.
- Professional approach to handling confidential information.
Desirable Experience
- Cardiac catheterisation laboratories.
- Device follow-up clinics.
- Exercise tolerance testing.
- Previous cardiac physiology experience.
