What you’ll be doing as a Battery and Generator Maintenance Team Leader:
The Maintenance Team Leader supports contractor delivery to meet safety, compliance and performance standards, ensuring critical standby power assets are maintained and tested effectively so they are ready to support operations during power disruptions.
As Maintenance Team Leader, you will be responsible for overseeing maintenance performance across a diverse portfolio of critical assets, providing operational assurance through site audits and identifying opportunities to enhance resilience processes and ways of working across Thames Water.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a vital area of UK infrastructure and make a meaningful difference to customer outcomes and environmental protection. Base location: Location can be flexible for both London or Thames Valley (e.g., Hampton, Beckton, Maple Lodge, Cirencester, Reading, Slough, Swindon & Oxford)
Working pattern or hours: 36 Hours per week (Monday to Friday)
Key responsibilities:
- Contract Management and Delivery Oversight: You will oversee contractor performance, ensuring all maintenance activities are delivered to agreed standards, timelines and budgets while fostering positive and collaborative working relationships.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance: You will implement and monitor quality assurance processes and compliance across contracted works, manage performance reporting and ensure risks are identified, addressed and escalated where necessary.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Continuous Improvement: You will act as the primary interface between Thames Water supervisors and contractor organisations, supporting effective communication, collaboration and timely resolution of issues while encouraging continuous improvement.
What you should bring to the role?
- Experience managing contractor delivery within engineering, mechanical or utilities environments.
- Experience overseeing planned work, managing budgets and ensuring compliance.
- Proven ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and external contractors while building strong working relationships.
The essential criteria to help you succeed in this role is:
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering and maintenance principles.
- Strong understanding of management, asset management and quality assurance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- IT literacy, including maintenance and contract management systems.

- Offering a salary between £55,000 to £68,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
