Job Title:           Technical Product Manager

Sector:              Energy Storage Systems

Type:                  Permanent

Location:          Rathnew, Co. Wicklow

Job Description

TRS on behalf of a reputable Energy client operating in the Energy Storage Sector are seeking an experienced engineer to take technical ownership of the ongoing development, performance and compliance of our energy storage product range. This is a hands-on role focused on making our existing products safer, more reliable, efficient, serviceable and cost-effective, while also identifying and assessing new products and technologies for addition to our manufactured range.

The successful candidate will evaluate the components and materials used across our systems - including battery cells, BMS, power electronics, electrical protection, controls, communications, thermal systems and enclosures - and ensure each is technically suitable, properly documented and supported by the required certifications.

Responsibilities

Product Development & Technical Ownership

  • Take technical ownership of existing energy storage product range and maintain a clear development roadmap.
  • Identify and implement improvements in performance, reliability, safety, efficiency, manufacturability, serviceability and cost.
  • Lead engineering changes and product upgrades from assessment through prototype, validation, documentation and production release.
  • Use production, service and field-performance data to identify recurring issues and drive continuous product improvement.
  • Ensure products are engineered with appropriate electrical, mechanical and thermal margins and that major design decisions are technically justified.

Component, Material & Supplier Selection

  • Technically assess and approve critical components and materials before use of products.
  • Lead battery cell selection, assessing chemistry, cycle life, C-rate, thermal performance, safety, degradation, warranty, supplier quality and application suitability.
  • Evaluate BMS, inverter/charger, PCS, switchgear, protection, control, communications, monitoring, cooling and enclosure solutions.
  • Compare alternative components and suppliers on technical performance, quality, availability, lifecycle support and cost.

New Product Sourcing, Vetting & Due Diligence

  • Source and identify new products, technologies and manufacturing partners that could complement or extend manufactured product range.
  • Lead the technical vetting and due diligence process before any new product or platform is approved for introduction.
  • Assess prospective products and suppliers for technical performance, design quality, safety, reliability, manufacturing capability, quality systems, warranty support, supply-chain resilience and long-term product support.
  • Review technical files, test reports, certifications, component provenance, datasheets and supplier claims, and identify any gaps requiring independent verification or further testing.
  • Coordinate sample evaluation, factory or supplier assessments, prototype integration and validation testing where appropriate.
  • Prepare a clear technical recommendation and risk assessment before new products are adopted, re-engineered, branded or incorporated into manufactured range.

Certification, Standards & Compliance

  • Take ownership of product certification and technical compliance for existing and new products.
  • Identify applicable standards, regulations and certification requirements for each product and target market and maintain a current compliance matrix.
  • Coordinate testing and certification with external laboratories, certification bodies and specialist consultants.
  • Maintain technical files, declarations, test reports, risk assessments and supporting compliance documentation.
  • Monitor changes to relevant regulations and standards and ensure engineering changes do not invalidate existing certifications.

Product Documentation, Manufacturing & Quality

  • Ensure drawings, bills of materials, wiring diagrams, specifications and technical documentation accurately reflect the current production configuration.
  • Maintain appropriate engineering change-control and product configuration processes.
  • Work with production to improve manufacturability, consistency and end-of-line testing.
  • Support root-cause analysis of production and field failures and define corrective actions.
  • Develop product validation, quality control and acceptance-testing requirements.
  • Support installation, commissioning, operation, service and maintenance documentation.

Required Experience

  • Qualified engineer, ideally in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic, Energy Systems or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant engineering experience in battery energy storage, power electronics, electrical equipment, renewable energy, EV systems, industrial power systems or a comparable technical manufacturing business.
  • Strong practical electrical and engineering knowledge with experience evaluating components and making engineering-based selection decisions.

Desirable Experience

Experience with LFP/lithium-ion battery systems, battery cell qualification, BMS, PCS/inverters, power electronics, generator and grid-connected systems, switchgear/protection, CAN/Modbus, remote monitoring/EMS, CE/UKCA compliance, IEC/EN/UL standards, external test laboratories, FMEA/root-cause analysis and electrical or electromechanical manufacturing.
