Behaviour Mentor – Specialist SEN College – Croydon – September Start

Are you passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and helping them overcome barriers to learning?

A specialist SEN College in Croydon is looking for a confident and dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join their team from September on a long-term basis.

This role would suit someone with experience working with young people who display challenging behaviour or have ASD, ADHD, SEMH or other additional needs. Previous experience as a Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant, SEN TA, Learning Support Assistant, Youth Worker or Support Worker would be highly relevant.

About the Role

Working as part of a supportive SEN team, you will provide individualised support to students across KS3, KS4 and KS5.

You will play an important role in helping students feel settled, manage their emotions and behaviour, and access their education successfully.

The role will involve:

• Providing dedicated 1:1 and small-group support to students throughout the school day
• Supporting students with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, additional learning needs and challenging behaviour
• Helping students develop strategies to manage their emotions and behaviour
• Providing encouragement and reassurance to students who may struggle with learning or engagement
• Developing positive, trusting relationships and becoming a consistent source of support
• Working alongside teachers to help students access lessons and participate in learning
• Supporting students both within the classroom and across the wider college environment
• Helping to implement individual behaviour and learning plans
• Using positive behaviour strategies and effective de-escalation techniques
• Responding to challenging situations in a calm, consistent and professional manner
• Encouraging independence, confidence and positive social development
• Providing both pastoral and academic support where required

What We're Looking For

This college is looking for someone who is genuinely passionate about working with young people and who can build strong relationships with students who may find education challenging.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally for at least one year
• Experience supporting students with SEN, SEMH, ASD, ADHD or challenging behaviour
• A background as a Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant, SEN TA, LSA, Youth Worker, Support Worker or similar
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
• The confidence to support students displaying challenging or dysregulated behaviour
• A calm, patient and resilient personality
• The ability to remain consistent and professional in difficult situations
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• A positive attitude and willingness to get involved
• A genuine commitment to helping young people make progress

Team Teach, Positive Handling or other relevant behaviour training would be advantageous, but is not essential.
