Astro Education are supporting a specialist SEN/SEMH school in South Manchester that is looking to appoint a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Mentor on a full-time, permanent basis.

The school provides a structured, supportive environment with small class sizes, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence, resilience and skills they need to succeed.

The Role

As a Behaviour Support Mentor, you will work closely with pupils, teachers and the wider pastoral team to provide consistent support and help young people manage their behaviour and emotions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.
  • Building strong, trusting and positive relationships with pupils.
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group mentoring and pastoral support.
  • Helping pupils develop emotional regulation and coping strategies.
  • Supporting pupils to recognise and manage their behaviour.
  • Encouraging positive attitudes towards learning and school.
  • Helping to maintain a calm, safe and structured environment.
  • Working alongside teachers and support staff to implement individual behaviour strategies.
  • Supporting pupils through difficult or challenging situations.
  • Encouraging positive choices, independence and personal development.
  • Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is calm, confident, consistent and resilient, with a genuine passion for helping young people.

You may have experience as a:

  • Behaviour Support Mentor
  • Teaching Assistant
  • SEN Teaching Assistant
  • SEMH Support Worker
  • Youth Worker
  • Pastoral Support Worker
  • Residential Support Worker
  • Learning Mentor
  • Behaviour Mentor

Experience working with SEMH, challenging behaviour, trauma, vulnerable young people or specialist education would be highly desirable.

Most importantly, you will need to be able to build positive relationships, maintain clear boundaries and remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging situations.
