Salary: £28,000 - £32,000 per annum


I am currently recruiting on behalf of a growing bespoke joinery and furniture manufacturer for an experienced Bench Joiner to join their new manufacturing workshop in Greater Manchester.

The business specialises in high-quality bespoke joinery and furniture for commercial interiors, retail, shopfitting and fit-out projects.
This is an opportunity for an experienced joiner who takes genuine pride in their workmanship and understands the importance of accuracy, quality and presentation when manufacturing bespoke furniture.
 
The Role
As a Bench Joiner, you will be responsible for manufacturing bespoke joinery, cabinetry and furniture from technical drawings and manufacturing information.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Manufacturing bespoke joinery, cabinetry and furniture from drawings and specifications.
  • Assembling pre-machined components accurately and efficiently.
  • Manufacturing counters, reception desks, cabinets, display units, storage units, shelving and bespoke commercial furniture.
  • Working with MDF, MFC, laminates, veneered boards, plywood, solid timber and decorative panels.
  • Applying laminates and decorative surfaces where required.
  • Fitting ironmongery including hinges, drawer runners, locks, handles, shelf supports and furniture hardware.
  • Accurately drilling, assembling, gluing, screwing and finishing components.
  • Checking dimensions against drawings throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Carrying out your own quality checks before completed items leave your bench.
  • Ensuring finished products are clean, complete and free from damage.
  • Identifying manufacturing or drawing issues before they affect production.
  • Working closely with the Workshop Manager and machinists to maintain production flow.
  • Keeping your bench and surrounding work area clean and organised.
  • Looking after tools, equipment and workshop machinery.
  • Following workshop health and safety procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Assisting with packing and preparation of finished goods where required.
  • Taking responsibility for the quality of work produced at your bench.
About You
The successful candidate will have proven experience as a Bench Joiner, Furniture Joiner or similar, ideally within a bespoke joinery, commercial furniture, shopfitting or manufacturing environment.
You will need:
  • Proven bench joinery or furniture manufacturing experience.
  • The ability to read and understand joinery drawings.
  • A good understanding of cabinetry and furniture construction.
  • Experience working with MDF, MFC, laminates and other board products.
  • Experience fitting furniture ironmongery.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to work accurately to dimensions.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
  • A strong understanding of workshop health and safety.
  • Pride in your workmanship and a commitment to getting things right first time.
Desirable Experience
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:
  • Pharmacy furniture.
  • Retail or shopfitting joinery.
  • Reception desks and counters.
  • CNC-produced furniture components.
  • Edge-banded panel construction.
  • Solid-surface materials.
  • Laminate fabrication.
  • Veneered furniture.
  • High-end commercial interiors.
  • Installation of manufactured joinery on site.
Qualifications
A recognised joinery qualification such as NVQ Level 2/3, City & Guilds or equivalent would be advantageous.
However, demonstrable experience and a high standard of workmanship are equally important.
A CSCS card would be beneficial for occasional site installation work but is not essential for a workshop-based position.
