Senior / Associate Building Surveyor – Project Management
London
£65,000–£85,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus bonus and benefits
Flexible working arrangements open for discussion.
If your salary expectations are above this range, we’d still welcome a confidential conversation to discuss your experience and what you’re looking for.
Two opportunities available
Take ownership of varied projects, build your client relationships and shape your next career move within a multidisciplinary built environment consultancy.
Hawkes Resourcing Group is recruiting two Building Surveyors for an established consultancy’s London office. The business is open to appointments at Senior or Associate level and will tailor the role to the experience, strengths and ambitions of the successful candidates.
If you enjoy the delivery side of building surveying and want a position combining technical work, project leadership and client contact, this opportunity offers considerable variety.
The opportunity
You’ll join a consultancy providing building surveying, project management, engineering, cost consultancy, compliance and fire safety services across England, Wales and Scotland.
Its work spans residential, commercial, mixed-use, university, college and student accommodation buildings, including complex and high-risk properties.
The role has a strong project bias, alongside opportunities to contribute to advisory and consultancy instructions. Projects are expected to range from approximately £500,000 to £50 million, with your responsibilities matched to your experience and the requirements of each scheme.
The portfolio includes:
- Historic building renovations and refurbishment.
- Commercial office fit-out.
- Private refurbishment projects.
- Fire safety improvement works.
- Major façade remediation schemes.
You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside colleagues from complementary disciplines, bringing together technical advice and practical project delivery.
Your responsibilities
Depending on the project, you’ll act as Project Manager, Contract Administrator, Employer’s Agent or Lead Consultant.
Your work will include:
• Taking responsibility for multiple projects and coordinating their delivery.
• Leading project teams and maintaining effective communication between clients, consultants and contractors.
• Administering JCT contracts and managing your contractual responsibilities.
• Advising on procurement routes and appropriate forms of contract.
• Monitoring progress, identifying issues and helping teams resolve delivery challenges.
• Providing clear, commercially considered advice to clients.
• Managing competing priorities while maintaining the quality of your work.
• Contributing to wider building surveying and consultancy services where your experience supports the instruction.
Senior or Associate: a role shaped around you
The business recognizes that strong candidates bring different combinations of technical expertise, project experience and leadership ability.
For a Senior Building Surveyor, this offers the chance to take ownership of instructions, strengthen your project leadership skills and discuss your longer-term progression.
For an Associate-level candidate, there is flexibility to shape the position around your existing experience and the contribution you can make to the London team. The scope of responsibility and your development ambitions will form part of the interview discussion.
Two appointments are available, allowing the consultancy to consider complementary strengths across the successful candidates.
What you’ll bring
We’re keen to speak with Building Surveyors and surveying-led Project Managers who can demonstrate:
-Strong practical knowledge of the JCT suite of contracts.
-Experience delivering construction, refurbishment or related property projects.
-An understanding of different procurement routes and forms of contract.
-The ability to lead and coordinate project teams effectively.
-Confident written and verbal communication with clients, contractors and colleagues.
-Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to resolving problems.
-Strong organisation and the ability to prioritise several instructions.
• A relevant building surveying or project management qualification gained through a degree or apprenticeship route.
The brief seeks a minimum of two years’ post-qualification experience, together with the capability to take on the responsibilities of the appointment.
Chartered status is preferred, although candidates progressing towards RICS accreditation will also be considered where their experience is suitable.
Knowledge of NEC contracts would be beneficial. Experience in refurbishment, historic buildings, façade remediation or fire safety projects would also be relevant to the workload.
Working arrangements
The London office is an important base for collaboration and day-to-day team contact.
The business is open to discussing flexible working arrangements, including working from home where needed. You’ll have the opportunity to discuss your circumstances and agree what is practical alongside client, project and team commitments.

• £65,000–£85,000 basic salary, depending on experience and appointment level.
• Bonus.
• Pension.
