Business Development Engineer

Rise Search Limited

Are you a business development professional with a genuine curiosity about how things work, even when you are not the one designing them? Do you enjoy opening doors and building relationships more than waiting for enquiries to land in your inbox?

We are working with a specialist engineering business that helps customers overcome sustainment and obsolescence challenges affecting their electronic and electro-mechanical systems, supporting sectors including aerospace, defence, rail, medical and industrial. As the business continues to grow, they are looking to strengthen their business development team with an experienced, commercially-driven BD professional.

This is a sales-focused role rather than an engineering one, but strong technical curiosity is essential. You will be speaking with engineers, procurement specialists and programme teams, and need to be comfortable understanding the context of a customer's challenge and recognising where the business's capabilities could help, before passing anything requiring detailed technical assessment to the internal team. You won't need to be the technical authority in the room, but you will need a genuine willingness to build a deep understanding of what the business does and why customers choose to work with them.

Your responsibilities as a Business Development Engineer:
  • Proactively identify and develop new business opportunities across target markets.
  • Open new conversations through telephone, email, LinkedIn, networking and industry events.
  • Build relationships with engineering, procurement and programme teams, across both new and existing accounts.
  • Qualify technical enquiries and pass them to the internal team for assessment.
  • Represent the business at customer meetings, exhibitions and conferences.
  • Maintain an accurate, active sales pipeline and CRM.

Your current experience which will help you as a Business Development Engineer:
  • Background in technical sales or business development, ideally gained within electronics, interconnect, electro-mechanical products or a related engineering field.
  • Comfortable holding a credible initial conversation with technical stakeholders without needing to be the technical expert.
  • Experience within aerospace, defence, rail or another high-reliability sector would be an advantage.
  • Persistent and self-motivated, able to maintain momentum over a longer sales cycle.
  • Relationship-focused approach, genuinely interested in understanding a customer's challenge rather than a transactional sales style.
  • Curious by nature, with a real willingness to build deep knowledge of a specialist technical offering.

What you can expect as a Business Development Engineer:
  • Salary of £38,000 - £42,000, dependent on experience
  • Performance related bonus
  • Company car
  • 33 days holiday including Bank Holidays
  • Christmas shutdown of up to 5 working days
  • NEST pension scheme
