BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER – PROJECTS
HVAC | Refrigeration | Controls | Building Systems
£Competitive + Bonus + Benefits
This is a role for someone who prefers creating opportunity over maintaining it.
If you’re happiest working existing accounts, this probably isn’t for you.
If you like getting involved once a project is already won, this probably isn’t for you either.
We’re looking for someone who operates earlier in the cycle — when relationships are forming, decisions are being shaped, and specifications are still open to influence.
The Business
This is an established engineering technology organisation operating across HVAC, refrigeration, controls and building automation.
Their solutions sit at the core of how modern systems perform — controlling temperature, energy use, efficiency and operational reliability across complex environments including retail, commercial property and industrial facilities.
The Role
Your focus is market creation and early-stage engagement.
You’ll be identifying where opportunities should exist, then building the relationships that make them happen.
That means engaging with consultants, contractors, OEMs and end users before projects are fully defined, and helping shape technical direction through credible engineering conversation and structured engagement.
You’ll also work closely with internal applications and sales teams to ensure early-stage opportunities are developed properly and progressed into live project pipelines.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Identifying organisations and projects with untapped potential
• Building first-contact relationships with technical and commercial stakeholders
• Developing influence within consultant and contractor networks
• Engaging early in project lifecycles to shape specification thinking
• Delivering technical presentations and CPD-style sessions where required
• Mapping decision-making structures across complex customer environments
• Creating structured pipelines of real, qualified project opportunities
• Working with internal teams to transition early interest into defined projects
What We’re Looking For
A background in one of the following areas will be expected:
• HVAC or refrigeration
• Controls / automation / BMS
• Building services engineering
• Electrical or mechanical engineering (with systems exposure)
You don’t need to be a design specialist, but you do need enough technical grounding to be credible in front of consulting engineers and senior technical stakeholders.
This role relies heavily on judgement — knowing who matters, how decisions are made, and where influence actually sits.
What Strong Performance Looks Like
You’ll be able to clearly describe:
• How you gained access to accounts with no prior relationship
• How you identified where a project opportunity really started
• How you built trust with technical stakeholders early in the process
• How you navigated consultant / contractor / OEM dynamics
• How you turned early conversations into structured pipeline
• How you consistently created new opportunities rather than relying on inbound demand
Who This Suits
Someone who:
• Enjoys the front end of the sales cycle
• Is comfortable working without existing structure or “warm” accounts
• Naturally asks how things are built, specified and decided
• Can switch between technical detail and commercial discussion
• Prefers influence over administration
• Is persistent without being pushy
• Thinks in terms of opportunity creation, not account maintenance
This role rewards curiosity, technical credibility and commercial instinct in equal measure.
The output matters far more than activity.
Success here is defined by the quality and quantity of opportunities you create — not the number you inherit.
