Business Systems Engineer
Avanti Recruitment
We are working with a small engineering and technology company in Ely that is looking for a technically strong ERP Engineer to take ownership of a completely greenfield ERPNext implementation.
The business is developing advanced industrial measurement technology and is currently at an early prototype stage. As the company grows, they are looking to introduce ERPNext as the central system for managing manufacturing, stock, procurement, engineering processes, HR and wider business operations.
This is not a purely functional ERP, project management or support-only position.
They need someone who understands ERP systems and business processes, but who is also genuinely hands-on technically. You will need to be comfortable writing code, working with SQL and APIs, and administering the Linux server environment that ERPNext will run on.
Direct ERPNext/Frappe experience would be ideal, but the company is also open to people from other ERP backgrounds who have strong technical depth and can demonstrate that they have customised, integrated and taken ownership of ERP environments themselves.
What you’ll be doing
You will take responsibility for the ERPNext environment end to end, including:
- Implementing and configuring ERPNext from scratch
- Understanding and mapping internal business processes
- Customising ERPNext/Frappe around those processes
- Developing custom functionality and scripts where required
- Working with Python/Frappe, SQL and REST APIs
- Managing the self-hosted Linux server environment
- Supporting deployment, upgrades, backups, monitoring and ongoing administration
- Supporting manufacturing, stock, procurement and inventory workflows
- Building reports, dashboards and workflows
- Migrating and validating existing data
- Integrating ERPNext with other business systems
What we’re looking for
We are particularly interested in people who have:
- Strong ERP implementation, ERP engineering or ERP development experience
- Hands-on experience customising ERP systems rather than only supporting them
- Coding or scripting experience — ideally Python, although strong experience with another language may also be considered
- Strong SQL experience
- Experience working with APIs and integrations
- Hands-on Linux server administration experience
- Experience owning or supporting self-hosted business-critical systems
- Experience with manufacturing, stock, inventory, procurement or similar ERP processes
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of a technical platform
Direct ERPNext/Frappe experience would be highly desirable, particularly around customisation, API integration and production deployment.
Experience with MariaDB, Redis, Nginx, shell scripting, Xero integrations, BOM/MRP processes or PLM environments would also be useful.
Why join?
This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of a new ERP environment from the beginning rather than inherit an established system.
You will have significant freedom to shape how ERPNext is implemented and used across the business, working closely with a small technical team at a stage where the company's processes and systems are still being built.
