The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Buyer to join a growing commercial team supporting the delivery of complex construction and civil engineering projects. With a strong pipeline of work and continued growth, this role offers the chance to play a key part in supporting project success through effective procurement and supply chain management.
Working closely with commercial, project delivery, planning, and HSQE teams, you will manage procurement activities across multiple projects, develop strategic supplier relationships, and contribute to procurement planning and continuous improvement initiatives. Your duties and responsibilities will be
• Procure materials, services, and consumable goods in support of project delivery teams.
• Obtain best value from suppliers while maintaining quality, delivery, and commercial objectives.
• Plan, place, and manage purchase orders for project requirements.
• Monitor supplier performance relating to cost, quality, and delivery.
• Report on procurement activities and order progress against project procurement plans.
• Support the subcontract procurement process alongside commercial teams.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key supply chain partners.
• Assist with the development and implementation of procurement strategies and business plans.
• Work collaboratively with HSQE teams to ensure suppliers meet required standards and approvals.
• Support procurement requirements for business overheads and departmental purchasing when required.
• Conduct site visits to maintain awareness of project progress and requirements.
You will have the following qualifications & experience:
- 1 to 3 years' experience within the construction and/or civil engineering industry.
- GCSE Grade 5 or above in English and Maths.
- Minimum Level 2 procurement qualification, ideally with ongoing CIPS progression.
- Experience working with NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
- Strong supplier negotiation skills.
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of contract forms.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines.
It’s great if you also have the following
- Working towards or holding a professional CIPS qualification.
- Experience using SAP or similar ERP/procurement systems.
- Experience developing supplier performance and category management strategies.
- Knowledge of Supply Chain Sustainability School resources and best practice.
- Experience supporting large scale infrastructure or major construction projects.
