Empowering Learning is recruiting on behalf of a specialist education organisation in Colchester for an enthusiastic and organised Central Services Support Assistant to join their Central Services team from 1st September 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced school administrator or office professional looking to join a supportive organisation where no two days are the same. The role combines school administration, finance administration, reception duties, project support and record management, making it ideal for someone who enjoys a varied workload.
The successful candidate will initially complete a 12-week agency placement before transferring onto the organisation's fixed-term contract until 31st August 2027.
The Role
Working closely with senior leaders, you will provide high-quality administrative support across a range of central services, helping to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of operations.
You'll play a key role in supporting financial administration, maintaining accurate records, welcoming visitors, coordinating meetings and providing administrative support for wider projects and outreach services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide efficient administrative support across the Central Services team.
- Process purchase orders, invoices, payments and financial records accurately.
- Assist with financial administration and resolve invoice or payment queries.
- Welcome visitors, answer telephone enquiries and provide an excellent front-of-house service.
- Maintain electronic filing systems, databases and confidential records.
- Produce meeting agendas, take minutes and support project administration.
- Assist with outreach administration, including emails, tracking documents and reporting.
- Support senior leaders with general office administration and diary management.
- Ensure safeguarding, confidentiality and GDPR procedures are followed at all times.
- Help maintain an organised, welcoming and professional office environment.

You will ideally have:
- Previous experience working within a busy school or education office.
- Experience processing orders, invoices and financial transactions.
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, databases and administrative systems.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
- A professional, friendly and approachable manner.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above).

Working Hours
37 hours per week - Term Time Only
Monday to Thursday: 8:00am - 4:00pm
Friday: 8:00am - 3:30pm
Contract
- Fixed-term contract from 1st September 2026 to 31st August 2027.
- 12-week temporary-to-permanent pathway via Empowering Learning before transferring onto the employer's contract.
