Chartered Building or Quantity Surveyor – Move into Development Monitoring

The Opportunity

An established construction consultancy is looking for a Chartered Building Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor who wants to move into development monitoring.

The team has a sustained flow of new instructions from banks and other lenders. It includes more than 30 monitoring specialists nationally, so you would be joining people who can train and support you as you learn the discipline.

You’ll advise lenders on development risks across a portfolio of mainly residential schemes, alongside hotel and commercial projects. As your experience grows, you’ll take responsibility for your own instructions, from the initial review through construction and completion.

The Role

  • Prepare initial development monitoring reports for lenders

  • Review project documentation, construction costs, programmes and risks

  • Visit sites and assess progress against the agreed programme

  • Review drawdown requests and advise lenders on the position

  • Identify issues that could affect cost, programme or delivery

  • Work with lenders, developers and professional teams throughout each project

What You’ll Bring

  • MRICS qualification in Building Surveying or Quantity Surveying

  • Experience working in a consultancy

  • A sound understanding of construction processes, costs and project risk

  • Clear report writing and confident client communication

  • A genuine interest in building a career in development monitoring

You do not need to have worked as a Development Monitoring Surveyor already. The consultancy is interested in surveyors with strong technical foundations and the judgement to develop in this specialist area.

Package

The basic salary is £60,000–£85,000, depending on experience, plus a bonus and benefits package. The bonus offers the potential for total earnings to reach six figures.
