Chartered Building Surveyor
London & Home Counties
Flexible / Home-Based Working
Salary up to £85k + Contractual Bonus + Company Car + Benefits
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Chartered Building Surveyor to join an established, highly regarded specialist building surveying consultancy with a particularly strong reputation in the insurance sector.
Our client offers a refreshing alternative to the larger multidisciplinary consultancies, combining the technical expertise and client base of an established business with the autonomy, flexibility and personal approach of a smaller team.
This is an opportunity to work on a genuinely varied portfolio of projects, ranging from complex insurance reinstatement schemes and major loss claims through to commercial refurbishment, heritage buildings, technical due diligence and specialist consultancy work.
The business is particularly interested in individuals who enjoy taking ownership of projects, developing client relationships and working in a collaborative, technically experienced environment.
The Role
You will be responsible for delivering a range of building surveying instructions, with a particular focus on insurance-related projects.
Responsibilities will include:
- Managing insurance reinstatement projects following fire, flood, storm and other property damage.
- Undertaking building inspections, assessing damage and advising on appropriate repair and reconstruction strategies.
- Preparing specifications, schedules of work and technical reports.
- Providing project management and contract administration services.
- Managing contractors, consultants and other stakeholders throughout project delivery.
- Advising on building regulations, CDM requirements, party wall matters and relevant legislation.
- Supporting clients through complex building-related issues, providing clear and practical technical advice.
- Undertaking wider building surveying instructions, potentially including dilapidations, technical due diligence, heritage and refurbishment projects.
- Developing existing client relationships and identifying opportunities for additional work.
There is also the opportunity to develop specialist expertise in forensic building surveying and expert witness work, supported by experienced senior professionals.
About You
We are looking for a technically capable and personable Building Surveyor who enjoys working independently and delivering a high standard of client service.
Ideally, you will have:
- MRICS qualification.
- Approximately 2-9 years' post-qualification experience, although other experience levels may be considered.
- A strong background in building surveying, ideally with exposure to insurance reinstatement, refurbishment or complex building projects.
- Experience in project management, contract administration and preparing technical specifications.
- Good knowledge of construction methods, building defects and relevant legislation.
- Confidence managing your own workload and making sound technical decisions.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A proactive, commercially aware and solutions-focused approach.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites.
Previous insurance experience would be particularly advantageous, although candidates from traditional building surveying backgrounds with strong technical expertise are encouraged to apply.
Experienced non-chartered surveyors with substantial specialist insurance experience may also be considered.
What's on Offer?
- Competitive salary tailored to experience and expertise.
- Contractual, non-discretionary bonus scheme.
- Additional financial rewards for developing new business.
- Company car scheme, including electric vehicle options.
- 25 days' annual leave.
- Additional employee benefits, including birthday leave.
- Pension contributions.
- Flexible, predominantly home-based working.
- Access to London office facilities.
- Supportive, highly experienced senior leadership team.
- Exposure to an unusually diverse portfolio of projects and clients.
- Genuine opportunities to develop specialist technical expertise and progress professionally.
