  KS2 Class Teacher – Taunton

Location: Rural Taunton
Start Date: September
Contract: Full-time, 5 days per week – ongoing
Hours: 8:30am – 3:15pm, with additional time required for planning and preparation

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and resilient KS2 Teacher to join a small, rural primary school near Taunton from September.

This is a unique opportunity to work within a close-knit school community of just 28 pupils. The successful teacher will take responsibility for a mixed KS2 class of 14 pupils across Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Due to the mixed-age nature of the class, the successful candidate will need to confidently plan, differentiate and deliver learning across multiple year groups. At times, this may involve teaching different groups using separate boards or screens to ensure learning is appropriately tailored to each year group.

The class has a high level and variety of SEND needs. One pupil has an EHCP and receives dedicated 1:1 support from a Teaching Assistant, while another pupil currently attends on a part-time timetable.

This is a full teaching role with responsibility for planning, delivering lessons, assessment and marking. The Headteacher will provide support where needed, and the successful candidate will have access to a wide range of planning resources and tools.

About the Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an experienced, confident and adaptable teacher who is comfortable taking responsibility within a small and sometimes challenging school environment. The school is ideally seeking a teacher at UPS1 level, although applications from other suitably experienced teachers will be considered.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Several years of successful classroom teaching experience, ideally within KS2

  • Experience planning and teaching across different year groups and ability levels

  • Strong knowledge of the KS2 curriculum

  • Confidence supporting pupils with a range of SEND needs

  • Excellent behaviour and classroom management skills

  • The ability to differentiate learning effectively within a mixed-age class

  • A calm, resilient and nurturing approach

  • The ability to work well under pressure and manage a high level of responsibility

  • Strong communication, organisation and teamwork skills

  • A genuine commitment to supporting every pupil to make progress

The pupils are described as lovely; however, the school is transparent that the environment can at times be challenging. The successful teacher will therefore need to be resilient, flexible and confident in managing the demands of a small school.

As a very small team, staff work closely together to coordinate responsibilities, including breaks and lunchtimes. The school is extremely rural with no nearby public transport, so access to a car is essential.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher who enjoys working within a close-knit school community and is looking for a rewarding role where they can make a genuine impact.
