A leading independent construction and property consultancy is looking for an experienced Clerk of Works / NEC Supervisor to join its team in Shrewsbury, working on a significant hospital development.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Clerk of Works / NEC Supervisor to play an important role in the delivery of a large-scale healthcare project, providing an on-site presence and ensuring works are completed in accordance with the contract, drawings, specifications and required quality standards.
The Clerk of Works / NEC Supervisor Role
The successful clerk will be responsible for monitoring the quality and progress of construction works on site, identifying defects or non-compliant works and ensuring these are appropriately recorded and addressed.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out regular site inspections throughout the construction programme
- Monitoring workmanship, materials and construction quality
- Ensuring works comply with drawings, specifications and contractual requirements
- Undertaking duties associated with the NEC Supervisor role
- Identifying and recording defects, non-compliance and areas of concern
- Producing clear and detailed inspection reports
- Maintaining accurate photographic and written site records
- Monitoring progress against the agreed construction programme
- Attending project, progress and site meetings
- Liaising with contractors, consultants, client representatives and other stakeholders
- Supporting the wider project team in resolving quality and technical issues
- Ensuring relevant testing and inspections are undertaken and appropriately recorded
- Monitoring health and safety observations and escalating concerns where appropriate
- Supporting the successful handover and completion of the project
The Clerk of Works / NEC Supervisor
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience working as a Clerk of Works, NEC Supervisor, Site Inspector or in a similar construction quality role
- ICWCI or MCIOB
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials and workmanship
- Experience working on large or technically complex construction projects
- A good understanding of NEC contracts, ideally including previous experience undertaking NEC Supervisor duties
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong written reporting and record-keeping skills
- Previous experience working on healthcare, hospital or other major public-sector construction projects would be particularly advantageous.
