The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for an experienced CNC Machinist to join an established engineering and manufacturing business based in Irlam, Manchester.
This is an excellent opportunity for a time-served CNC Turner or an experienced machinist with at least 3 years' CNC turning experience, who is confident with programming, setting and operating CNC lathes and can read and edit ISO programs.
The successful candidate will work within a busy machine shop, producing high-quality components to engineering drawings and specifications, while taking responsibility for machine set-up, proving programs, inspection and troubleshooting.
The Role
You will be responsible for:
- Programming, setting and operating CNC turning machines.
- Working with Doosan CNC lathes, including:
- Lynx 2100/220LSY
- Puma 2600SY
- Puma 2600M
- GT2100
- Working with Fanuc controls.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Reading, editing and proving ISO CNC programs.
- Setting tools, offsets, compensation and reference points.
- Selecting appropriate tooling and inserts for the required components.
- Setting chucks, collets, tooling, attachments, stops and bar feeders.
- Inspecting first-off components and sample workpieces.
- Taking measurements and ensuring components meet required specifications.
- Identifying and troubleshooting machining issues.
- Adjusting and reprogramming controls where required.
- Replacing worn tooling and maintaining machining quality.
- Completing production and quality documentation.
- Supporting continuous improvement activities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Maintaining a safe and organised working environment.
We are looking for someone who has:
- A time-served engineering apprenticeship or a minimum of 3 years' CNC turning experience.
- Strong experience programming, setting and operating CNC lathes.
- The ability to confidently read and edit ISO programs for turning.
- Good knowledge of Fanuc-controlled CNC machinery.
- The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Good understanding of tooling, inserts, offsets and machine set-up.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality components.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
The following would be advantageous:
- Experience with live tooling.
- Experience with sub-spindles.
- Experience programming ISO-controlled machines.
- Experience working with PTFE.
- CMM experience.
- Experience with continuous improvement.
- HNC/HND in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
- £17 - £20 per hour, depending on experience.
- Salary is negotiable for candidates with significant additional experience or specialist skills.
- Monday-Thursday 6:00am-2:30pm.
- Friday 6:00am-1:30pm.
- Permanent position.
- Day shift with an early finish on Fridays.
