The Company:

Theo James Recruitment is proud to be supporting an established heavy engineering business looking to strengthen its machining team with an experienced CNC Machinist.

Operating from a large, specialist engineering facility, the business undertakes varied machining work involving large components, repair work and one-off engineering projects.

Due to continued demand and plans to expand the workforce, they are now looking for a CNC Machinist who can bring strong machining knowledge to the workshop.

Job Description:

As a CNC Machinist, you will work across specialist CNC machinery, with a particular focus on machines operating Siemens 840D controls.

The role includes needing to work mainly on a horizontal boring machine alongside other CNC equipment. The horizontal boring work is predominantly suited to someone from a milling background, although broader machining experience would be highly advantageous.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Programming using Siemens 840D controls

  • Working predominantly on horizontal boring/milling operations

  • Machining large and varied engineering components

  • Setting jobs and producing components to engineering requirements

  • Supporting other CNC machining activities throughout the workshop

  • Working confidently and safely around large machinery and components

Skills & Experience:

The ideal CNC Machinist will have:

  • Experience programming, setting and operating CNC machinery
  • Siemens experience, ideally Siemens 840D

  • A strong CNC milling or horizontal boring background

  • Experience within heavy engineering would be beneficial but is not essential

  • Confidence working with larger machines and components

  • Broader milling and turning knowledge would be advantageous

The business understands that experienced Union machine operators are extremely difficult to find, so applications are welcomed from a CNC Machinist with transferable horizontal boring or milling experience.

Why Should You Apply?

This is an excellent opportunity for a CNC Machinist looking to move away from repetitive production machining and work within a specialist heavy engineering environment.

You’ll have the opportunity to work with unusual, large-scale machinery, develop your existing skills and become part of an experienced workshop team.

If you’re an experienced CNC Machinist with Siemens programming experience and want a technically varied long-term position, this could be an excellent next move.
