MERITUS are working with a well-established precision engineering manufacturer looking to recruit an experienced CNC Miller Setter / Editor / Programmer / Operator to join their growing machining team.

CNC MILLER / PROGRAMMER - £18 - £20 PER HOUR - CHRISTCHURCH, DORSET - PERMANENT ROLE - 1 STAGE INTERVIEW PROCESS - SECTOR: PRECISION ENGINEERING

We are looking for a skilled CNC Miller with experience programming, setting and operating CNC milling machinery. You will be responsible for producing high-precision machined components to drawing specifications while maintaining high standards of quality, efficiency and safety.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a company producing complex precision components across a diverse range of sectors including Aerospace, Defence, Instrumentation, Automotive, Oil & Gas, ensuring a varied and technically challenging workload. The successful candidate will play a key role in programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines while also supporting inspection and finishing activities throughout the manufacturing process.


This is a hands-on role offering excellent variety, with opportunities to support first-off inspection, deburring and quality activities, enabling you to further develop your engineering skill set.


Key Responsibilities

  • Program, set and operate CNC milling machines to manufacture precision-engineered components.
  • Edit existing CNC programs and optimise machining processes to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Work with Fanuc and Haas controls to produce components to tight tolerances.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and manufacturing documentation.
  • Select appropriate tooling and machining strategies to support production requirements.
  • Conduct first-off inspections and verify components against engineering drawings and customer specifications.
  • Carry out in-process inspections to ensure products consistently meet quality standards.
  • Support deburring and finishing activities where required.
  • Identify and resolve machining issues to minimise downtime and scrap.
  • Maintain accurate production records and complete any required manufacturing documentation.
  • Work closely with production, quality and engineering teams to ensure efficient workflow and delivery performance.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across machining and manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all company quality standards, operating procedures and health & safety requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.


Essential Experience & Skills

  • Previous experience working as a CNC Miller Setter, Programmer, Operator within a precision engineering environment.
  • Strong experience programming, setting and operating CNC milling machinery.
  • Experience using Fanuc and/or Haas controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Experience manufacturing components to tight tolerances.
  • Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling selection and cutting parameters.
  • Ability to use a range of inspection equipment including micrometers, verniers and gauges.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
