College Student Support & Safety Officer

Location: Huddersfield, West Yorkshire
Working hours: Monday to Friday 7:30am - 5:30pm
Hourly rate: £13.45 p/h

Temporary, with a view to be offered a permanent contract after a successful probation of 12 weeks

Stafflex is recruiting for a college in Huddersfield. This is a visible, people-focused role helping to keep the campus safe and welcoming for students, staff and visitors.

This is not an SIA door security or routine patrol role. The focus is on working with college students aged 16 and over: building rapport, maintaining a calm presence, responding to behaviour and helping de-escalate situations. There are also site safety duties, including CCTV monitoring and access control, but the college is looking for someone whose strength is working with young people.

You'll spend much of your day interacting with young people aged 16 and over. The college needs someone who can build rapport, understand that behaviour can have different causes, set clear boundaries and calm situations before they escalate. You'll also carry out practical site safety and security duties.

What you'll do:

• Be a friendly, approachable presence around the college.
• Speak with students respectfully and respond calmly to challenging behaviour or conflict.
• Work with college staff to raise concerns and help resolve issues.
• Monitor CCTV and remain alert to safety or security risks.
• Assist with access control, securing buildings and other site duties.
• Keep clear records and use college IT systems as needed.

What we're looking for:

• Experience working with young people aged 16+, or strong experience in another public-facing role where you've managed challenging situations.
• Confident communication, sound judgement and the ability to de-escalate conflict.
• Empathy and an understanding that students may face different personal, learning or mental health challenges.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic IT skills and a commitment to safeguarding.

Experience in a college, youth setting, community role would be ideal. This is a role working with young people who can take on the site safety duties.
