An established specialist construction contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Commercial Manager to join its senior commercial team.
This is a broad, hands-on commercial position taking responsibility for the financial and contractual management of technically complex construction projects from tender and contract negotiation through delivery to final account.
The successful individual will work closely with the Commercial Director, Project Directors and wider delivery teams, taking ownership of commercial risk, procurement, cash flow, contract administration and project financial performance.
Candidates should be based within practical travelling distance of Cambridge or London, with flexibility to work between the office, project sites and home.
The RoleAs Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for:
Commercially managing projects from inception through to completion
Supporting the Commercial Director with contractual and commercial matters
Managing commercial risks, opportunities and potential disallowed costs
Preparing and presenting monthly CVRs
Managing project cash flow and ensuring accurate forecasting
Preparing and managing monthly valuations and applications for payment
Managing variations and change from tender stage through to final account
Maintaining accurate commercial and contractual project records
Managing subcontractor accounts, including valuations, variations and contra-charges
Preparing contractual correspondence and notices
Supporting contract negotiations and undertaking commercial risk reviews
Managing procurement budgets and supporting the purchase of complex manufactured items
Reviewing labour, prelim and project resource budgets
Working closely with Project Directors and delivery teams to address programme and commercial issues
Ensuring financial and contractual obligations are understood across the project team
Supporting the continued development of commercial procedures and controls

You should have:
Strong commercial and contractual knowledge
Experience managing construction projects or specialist subcontract packages
Strong knowledge of JCT, NEC and bespoke contracts
Experience with CVRs, forecasting and commercial reporting
Strong variation, change-management and final-account experience
Experience managing subcontractors and supply-chain accounts
Excellent negotiation and stakeholder-management skills
The ability to understand technical and contractual information
Strong written English, particularly when preparing contractual correspondence and claims
The ability to manage multiple projects and commercial priorities
A full UK driving licence
A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline would be advantageous.
Previous experience within façades, architectural glazing, curtain walling or another technically led specialist subcontracting environment would be particularly beneficial.
