The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Commissioning Engineer to join a leading engineering business specialising in bespoke automation and special purpose machinery.
Working within the Automation team, you'll play a key role in delivering complex automation projects through in-house and on-site commissioning, system validation and customer support. This is a varied, hands-on role offering the opportunity to work with the latest PLC, HMI, SCADA and drive technologies across a wide range of industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Commission automated machinery and control systems both in-house and at customer sites.
- Power up new automation systems and complete I/O testing.
- Test, validate and troubleshoot PLC software, HMIs, SCADA systems and industrial networks.
- Carry out Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
- Configure and commission variable speed drives, servo systems and ancillary equipment.
- Integrate vision systems and production line automation equipment.
- Support machine installation, commissioning and customer handover.
- Supervise and support electrical and instrumentation technicians during commissioning activities.
- Carry out electrical fault finding and panel troubleshooting.
- Provide technical support and aftersales assistance to customers.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Automation Engineers and Electrical Engineers to ensure successful project delivery.
- Travel within the UK and internationally to support customer installations and commissioning.
About You
- Formal Electrical or Automation Engineering qualification (Apprenticeship, HNC, HND or Degree).
- Minimum of 2 years' commissioning experience within industrial automation.
- Strong PLC commissioning and fault-finding experience using Siemens TIA Portal, Omron or Allen-Bradley.
- Experience commissioning HMI and SCADA systems, including WinCC or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of VFDs and servo drives, including Siemens and Schneider/Altivar.
- Good understanding of industrial communication networks such as Profinet and EtherNet/IP.
- Experience commissioning automated machinery or production lines.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
- Excellent fault-finding, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Flexible to travel and work away from home when required.
