Community Coach (Cornwall)

Are you experienced in working with young people who have Special Education Needs (SEN) or Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCPs)? Do you enjoy building confidence, promoting independence and helping individuals overcome barriers to education, training and employment?

We're recruiting a Community Coach to join our Skills Future programme, delivered in partnership with Cornwall Council.

In this rewarding role, you'll provide personalised one-to-one support to young poeple with SEN, helping them build the confidence, resilience and practical skills they need to progress into mainstream education, training or employment. Working closely with young people, their families and partner organisations, you'll co-produce tailored actions plans, identify appropriate support, and empower young people to achieve the outcomes within their Education, Health and Care Plans.

No two days will be the same. You'll work across community settings throughout Cornwall, building strong relationships with local services, training providers and stakeholders to ensure every young person receives the right support at the right time.

Our delivery approach focuses on developing independence, confidence and wellbeing through personalised coaching, information, advice and guidance, practical activities, signposting to specialist services and coordinated multi-agency support.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of young people, providing tailored one-to-one support in community settings or digitally where appropriate.
• Deliver high-quality Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) to help young people identify and achieve their education, training and employment goals.
• Develop individual SMART action plans and personalised programmes of support aligned to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
• Promote emotional wellbeing, confidence, resilience and independence through person-centred coaching and mentoring.
• Work collaboratively with parents, guardians, Cornwall Council and external partners to achieve positive outcomes.
• Build strong relationships with local education providers, training organisations and community services.
• Meet contractual Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) while maintaining excellent quality and compliance standards.
• Maintain accurate case records, reports and project documentation in line with contractual requirements.
• Identify and manage risk appropriately, safeguarding the wellbeing of young people at all times.

Skills & Experience

Essential

• GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent experience.
• Experience of supporting young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN), disabilities or additional barriers.
• Experience delivering advice, guidance, coaching or mentoring support.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with young people, families and partner organisations.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied caseload.
• Good digital literacy, including Microsoft Office and online communication tools.
• Ability to work independently whilst managing competing priorities.
• Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.

Desirable

• Information, Advice and Guidance qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
• Knowledge of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
• Experience of working with NEET young people.
• Knowledge of the SEN landscape and local support services within Cornwall.
