N P Aerospace Ltd · Direct employer

Job Title: Configuration Manager
Location: Coventry CV6
Core Hours: 08:00-16:35 (Mon – Thu) 08:00-15:10 (Fri)
Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full-time and based onsite with potential hybrid working
Salary: £60,000 - £65,000 (subject to experience) per annum + Discretionary Bonus

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Configuration Manager to take ownership of configuration control across complex military vehicle programmes supporting UK MoD and international defence customers.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll work closely with engineering, project, production and customer teams to ensure product data, baselines, engineering changes and technical records remain accurate, controlled and compliant throughout the product lifecycle. You’ll be involved in resolving real-world configuration challenges across active programmes rather than simply managing process from a distance.

You’ll thrive in this role if you already have strong Configuration Management experience within defence, aerospace or complex engineering environments and are comfortable working with standards, engineering change, technical documentation and customer requirements in fast-paced operational settings. If you enjoy solving problems, bringing structure to complex engineering activity and working directly with technical teams and MoD stakeholders, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

What you’ll get in return

At NP Aerospace, we know our success comes from our people. That’s why we invest in benefits that support your health, reward your hard work, and help you grow your career:

  • Performance rewards – discretionary bonus opportunities
  • Flex your day – flexible start and finish times (subject to manager approval and operational needs)
  • Time to recharge – 25 days’ holiday + 8 bank holidays, with the option to buy more through our Holiday Purchase Scheme
  • Support for Defence – two weeks’ paid leave for Reservists and Cadets, plus paid leave for Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs)
  • Future security – competitive pension scheme (9% combined employer/employee contributions)
  • Peace of mind – life cover at 3x base salary
  • Health & wellbeing first – BHSF Cash Healthcare Plan to support everyday health costs
  • Grow with us – career development and advancement opportunities within a global business
  • Supportive environment – a team culture built on innovation, collaboration, and purpose

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you’ll take day-to-day ownership of configuration management activities across military vehicle and engineering programmes, ensuring product baselines, engineering changes and technical records are accurately controlled throughout the lifecycle. You’ll work directly with engineering, project, production and supply chain teams to resolve configuration issues, maintain data integrity and support programme delivery.

You’ll manage and maintain Configuration and Data Management Plans, support change control activities and ensure compliance with DEF-STAN, customer and regulatory requirements. This will give you direct involvement in complex engineering programmes where accuracy, traceability and configuration discipline are critical to operational success.

You’ll also support audits, customer reviews and technical investigations while maintaining accurate configuration status records across hardware, software and documentation. Working closely with MoD customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders, you’ll help ensure engineering information is controlled, compliant and aligned across the business.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with strong, practical Configuration Management experience gained within defence, aerospace or complex engineering environments. You’ll ideally have:

  • Proven experience working in a dedicated Configuration Management role within engineering or technical programmes
  • Strong understanding of configuration control, baseline management and engineering change processes
  • Experience working to DEF-STAN, British Standards and/or European engineering standards
  • Experience supporting MoD customers or defence-related programmes
  • Experience using PLM/PDM and ERP systems such as Windchill, QAD, SAP or similar
  • Experience maintaining technical records, product structures and engineering documentation throughout the lifecycle
  • Strong understanding of configuration audits, compliance and traceability requirements
  • Excellent attention to detail with a practical, delivery-focused approach

Desirable

  • Degree in an engineering, scientific or technical discipline
  • Experience with Creo, DOORS or software configuration tools
  • Experience supporting vehicle, aerospace or defence platforms
  • Auditor experience or involvement in configuration/process audits
  • Professional body membership or relevant industry certification
