A major UK contractor is looking for a Construction Manager with strong steelwork experience and a background in self‑delivery on large, complex projects. This suits someone who's comfortable leading from the front, keeping teams organised, and bringing clarity and momentum to busy sites.

The Role

You'll oversee day‑to‑day construction delivery, making sure steelwork and wider civils activities are planned properly, coordinated well, and executed safely. • Manage look‑ahead planning and short‑term programmes

  • Oversee steel erection, temporary works and lifting operations

  • Maintain quality assurance, inspections and documentation

  • Coordinate logistics, sequencing and interfaces with other disciplines

  • Spot risks early and put sensible mitigation in place

  • Keep communication clear between internal teams, designers, clients and the supply chain

  • Maintain strong safety culture and compliance with CDM requirements

Required Experience

  • Solid background in self‑delivery on major projects

  • Proven experience delivering structural steelwork packages

  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, temporary works and site controls

  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams in live, high‑risk environments

  • Confident communicator with good reporting and documentation skills

  • Relevant qualification in civil engineering or construction management

Desirable

  • Experience in complex infrastructure such as energy, industrial, defence or rail

  • Familiarity with digital tools like Aconex, CEMAR or Power BI

  • Exposure to project controls (risk, change, cost, earned value)

  • Professional membership or working towards it
