A leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor is seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to oversee a portfolio of major infrastructure projects across highways, rail, water, utilities and heavy civil engineering sectors. 

This is an opportunity for a highly capable operational leader to take ownership of multiple live contracts and play a key role in the successful delivery of large-scale schemes valued up to £30m and beyond. Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will be trusted to lead projects with a high degree of autonomy whilst driving safety, quality, programme and commercial performance. 

The Role
As Contracts Manager, you will provide strategic oversight across several concurrent projects, ensuring successful delivery from inception through to completion.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing a portfolio of live civil engineering contracts.
  • Leading and supporting Project Managers, Site Managers and delivery teams.
  • Maintaining programme, quality, safety and commercial performance.
  • Building and managing strong client and stakeholder relationships.
  • Ensuring governance, compliance and reporting requirements are achieved.
  • Conducting regular site visits and providing visible operational leadership.
  • Delivering monthly project reviews and ongoing performance reporting to senior management.
  • Driving a positive culture focused on safety, quality and operational excellence. 

About You

We are particularly interested in candidates who have developed through a hands-on civil engineering route and who remain closely connected to project delivery.

You will ideally have:

  • A background progressing from Site Engineer, Setting Out Engineer or similar site-based role.
  • Experience as a Contracts Manager or Senior Project Manager within civil engineering.
  • Proven delivery of major infrastructure or heavy civil engineering projects.
  • Strong knowledge of earthworks, reinforced concrete structures, drainage and groundworks.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and teams concurrently.
  • Excellent client-facing, stakeholder management and leadership skills.
  • Experience working with principal contractors, frameworks or major infrastructure programmes.
  • A proactive and practical approach to problem-solving. 

Qualifications & Certifications

  • Relevant Civil Engineering or Construction qualification.
  • CSCS Card.
  • SMSTS, IOSH or equivalent site management certification.
  • Full UK driving licence.
