Control & Instrumentation Engineer
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer to join a high-profile programme. The role will focus on the specification, procurement, installation, integration, and commissioning of control systems and instrumentation equipment, supporting the delivery of a complex engineering project within a highly regulated environment.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will provide C&I expertise throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring systems are designed, procured, installed, and commissioned safely and in compliance with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Control & Instrumentation engineering scope across a major capital equipment project.
- Develop and review technical specifications, control philosophies, instrument datasheets, and procurement packages.
- Provide technical input into the selection, procurement, and integration of control systems, PLCs, SCADA systems, instrumentation, and associated equipment.
- Support supplier engagement, tender evaluations, technical assessments, and design reviews.
- Provide C&I engineering input throughout design, procurement, installation, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness activities.
- Collaborate with process, mechanical, electrical, systems, safety, and project engineering teams within a highly regulated environment.
- Ensure engineering activities comply with relevant quality, safety, cybersecurity, and regulatory requirements.
- Review and approve engineering documentation, including P&IDs, control narratives, cause and effects, functional design specifications, and test documentation.
- Support equipment integration, commissioning, and handover activities.
Required Experience
- Proven experience as a Control & Instrumentation Engineer within a regulated engineering environment.
- Background in Nuclear, Defence, Chemical, Petrochemical, Oil & Gas, Pharmaceutical, Utilities, or other highly regulated industries.
- Experience supporting the specification, procurement, installation, commissioning, or integration of control and instrumentation systems.
- Strong knowledge of PLC, SCADA, DCS, instrumentation, and industrial control systems.
- Experience producing and reviewing C&I engineering documentation, including instrument specifications, control philosophies, functional design specifications, and test procedures.
- Understanding of applicable industry standards, functional safety principles, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with multidisciplinary project delivery and engineering assurance processes.
- Degree qualified in Control & Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution or working towards Chartership is desirable.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment with occasional site travel.
- Candidates should be able to meet any applicable security vetting requirements associated with the role.
