Deputy Manager – Luxury Retirement Home – AV1982

Location: Norwich, Norfolk
Salary: £28,762.00 per Annum
Hours: 37.5 Hours per Week

About the Opportunity

Avon Search is delighted to be recruiting for a compassionate and committed Deputy Manager on behalf of a well-established residential care provider in Norwich.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a small, welcoming residential care home supporting 18 residents in a friendly, person-centred environment. The smaller size of the service allows staff to build genuine relationships with residents, ensuring care is tailored to each individual's needs while promoting dignity, independence and wellbeing.

Our client is looking for someone who shares their commitment to delivering outstanding care and creating a positive home environment for both residents and staff. Whilst previous Deputy Manager experience would be advantageous, they are equally happy to consider an experienced Senior Care Assistant or Team Leader who is ready to take the next step in their career. The right attitude, leadership qualities and commitment to the home are just as important as previous job title.

The Role

Working alongside the Registered Manager, you will help oversee the day-to-day operation of the home, ensuring high standards of care, compliance and resident wellbeing are consistently maintained.

The role offers a combination of supernumerary management time and hands-on care support, allowing you to lead by example whilst remaining actively involved with residents and the team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Registered Manager with the daily operation of the home
  • Leading, mentoring and motivating the care team
  • Delivering and promoting high-quality, person-centred care
  • Completing regular audits and supporting continuous quality improvement
  • Monitoring care plans, risk assessments and documentation
  • Supporting medication management and safe working practices
  • Assisting with staff supervision, training and development
  • Building positive relationships with residents, relatives and healthcare professionals
  • Deputising for the Registered Manager when required
  • Maintaining compliance with CQC standards and company policies

Working Pattern

This is a 37.5-hour per week position, consisting of a mixture of supernumerary management shifts and on-floor care shifts.

Typical rota includes:

  • 3 supernumerary shifts each week (8:00am–4:00pm or 9:00am–5:00pm)
  • 2 care shifts each week, which may include:
    • 8:00am–8:00pm
    • 8:00am–2:00pm
    • 2:00pm–8:00pm

This balanced approach provides dedicated time for leadership responsibilities whilst maintaining a visible presence within the care team.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience working within a residential care home for older people
  • Previous experience as a Deputy Manager, Team Leader or Senior Care Assistant looking to progress
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (Level 5 or willingness to work towards would be advantageous)
  • Experience completing audits or a willingness to develop in this area
  • Good understanding of CQC standards and person-centred care
  • Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
  • A caring, positive and proactive approach
  • A genuine commitment to providing exceptional care and becoming an integral part of the home's long-term success
