Design Engineer/Appointed Person (Lifting)

Astute's Nuclear Team is partnering with Fayat Lifting, a leading lifting and engineering specialist supporting the Hinkley Point C project, to recruit an Appointed Person / Mechanical Design Engineer for its Bridgwater, Somerset site.

The Appointed Person / Mechanical Design Engineer role comes with a competitive salary up to £70,000, tax free accomodation allowance, and the opportunity to work on one of the UK's largest nuclear infrastructure projects.

Reporting to the Construction Manager, you will:

• Produce detailed lifting plans using SolidWorks, AutoCAD and CAD software.

• Act as a qualified CPCS Appointed Person, ensuring all lifting operations comply with LOLER, HPC lifting standards and site safety requirements.

• Develop installation procedures, method statements and task-specific risk assessments.

• Design temporary works to support lifting and installation activities.

• Supervise the technical aspects of site works and brief lifting teams on approved lift plans.

• Coordinate technical queries with NNB GenCo, Responsible Designers and client representatives.

• Support quality documentation, including Field Change Requests (FCRs) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).

• Maintain and update as-built documentation and engineering drawings.

• Promote a strong nuclear safety culture across all lifting operations.

We are looking for someone with the following:

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering.

• CPCS A61 Appointed Person qualification (essential).

• Proven experience producing lifting plans using CAD software such as SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD.

• At least three years' experience within lifting operations and engineering design.

• Experience within the nuclear industry or another highly regulated engineering environment.

• Strong understanding of LOLER regulations, lifting standards and safe systems of work.

• Full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK.
