EHS Advisor
Maintech Recruitment
Location; Sandiacre, Nottinghamshire
We are working with an established, well-invested manufacturing business operating within the heavy industrial manufacturing sector, with foundry and machining operations at its core. The site runs a safety-critical environment where Human and Organisational Performance (HOP) principles genuinely shape day-to-day culture, and the business holds ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 accreditation, with a strong audit track record.
This is a great opportunity for an EHS Advisor who is looking for a role with real autonomy, variety and the chance to shape safety culture across two sites, working within a business that genuinely invests in its people and its EHS function.
You'll take ownership of day-to-day EHS activity across the main site and a smaller satellite facility, reporting into the UK EHS Manager who focuses on strategy while you drive the ground-level work. Expect a varied week: learning walks and visible engagement with shop floor and office teams, spotting trends in EHS data to get ahead of issues before they become incidents, supporting audits, delivering training, and leading investigations when things do go wrong. Core hours run 9:30am to 4:00pm, with an earlier 2:00pm finish on a Friday, within a 37.5 hour week — there's some flexibility around start and finish times to suit, based on site five days a week.
This role would suit an EHS professional from a regulated or heavy industry background — rail, aerospace, automotive, nuclear, offshore, mining or similar — who enjoys working independently and wants a business that will back them with investment, structure and a genuinely supportive EHS Manager. Candidates from an FMCG background with strong compliance experience will also be considered. A quick start is preferred, so candidates able to start at short notice are especially welcome.
Responsibilities of an EHS Advisor:
- Conduct regular learning walks, building a visible and trusted presence across shop floor and office teams
- Analyse EHS data and trends to identify trigger points and drive proactive, preventative action
- Lead accident and incident investigations, ensuring thorough and accurate documentation
- Deliver EHS training and inductions, including manual handling, fire warden and (where experienced) abrasive wheels
- Support preparation for internal and external audits, including third-party assessments
- Maintain awareness of current EHS legislation and ensure ongoing compliance, including COSHH and PUWER
- Support the UK EHS Manager on wider EHS schemes and continuous improvement initiatives across both sites
Skills & Qualifications of an EHS Advisor:
- NEBOSH General Certificate (ideal but not essential for the right candidate)
- Experience within a regulated industry such as rail, aerospace, automotive, nuclear, offshore, mining or heavy manufacturing
- Confident working independently and managing day-to-day EHS activity with minimal oversight
- Strong communication and influencing skills across all levels of the business
- Experience gained across more than one industry sector is an advantage
Benefits of an EHS Advisor:
- Salary up to £45,000, depending on experience
- Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week — no shifts, no weekends, early finish on a Friday
- Annual bonus scheme based on company performance
- Employer pension contribution of up to 7%
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (33 days total)
- Genuine autonomy within a well-established and well-resourced EHS function
- Long-term stability with a business that continues to invest in its safety culture
