Electrical Maintenance Engineer

Hours: 40 hours per week (Rotating Shifts)
Salary: £24.71 per hour (inclusive of 25% shift allowance for all hours worked)

Shift Pattern

  • Monday to Friday 

  • 06:00 – 14:00 

  • 14:00 – 22:00 (Rotating weekly) 

Please note, participation in planned shutdowns and commissioning periods will be required, including 27th – 31st December 2026.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer to support the safe, reliable and efficient operation of our manufacturing facility. Working across our lead component and lead sheet production areas, you'll be responsible for maintaining electrical systems, PLC controls and automated production equipment while driving continuous improvement and maximising plant reliability.

This is a hands-on role within a heavy manufacturing environment, combining reactive maintenance, preventative maintenance and project work involving equipment upgrades and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out reactive electrical maintenance and fault finding to minimise downtime. 

  • Diagnose and repair electrical, control and automation faults, including intermittent issues. 

  • Troubleshoot Mitsubishi and Siemens PLC-controlled machinery, including I/O, communications, alarms and operating sequences. 

  • Support and maintain variable speed drives (VFDs), servo drives and associated control systems. 

  • Maintain and fault-find electro-hydraulic systems, identifying issues such as pressure loss, contamination, overheating and component failure. 

  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), electrical isolation and health & safety procedures. 

  • Maintain LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) systems, ensuring extraction equipment, sensors and safety interlocks remain fully operational. 

  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce equipment failures and improve production efficiency. 

  • Assist with commissioning of new equipment, modifications and capital improvement projects. 

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, PLC backups, parameter logs and electrical drawings. 

  • Provide detailed shift handovers, communicating ongoing issues, completed work and outstanding actions. 

Equipment You'll Support

You'll work across a variety of industrial manufacturing equipment including:

  • Lead melting and heating systems 

  • Rolling mills 

  • Extrusion lines 

  • CNC machining centres 

  • Hydraulic presses and forming equipment 

  • Variable speed drives and servo systems 

  • PLC-controlled production machinery 

  • LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) systems 

  • Hydraulic power packs, valves and accumulators 

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong electrical maintenance experience within a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment. 

  • Experience fault finding on PLC-controlled machinery. 

  • Knowledge of Mitsubishi GX Works and Siemens TIA Portal (preferred). 

  • Experience working with three-phase motors, electrical control systems and industrial panels. 

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics. 

  • Experience working with inverter drives, servo drives and electrical control systems.  

  • Understanding of hydraulic systems and associated fault diagnosis. 

  • A structured approach to problem solving with excellent communication skills. 

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Electrical Engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience. 

Desirable:

  • HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering, Controls or Mechatronics. 

  • Mitsubishi and Siemens PLC programming experience. 

  • Servo drive experience. 

  • Electrical safety qualifications. 

  • Hydraulic maintenance experience. 

Working Environment

This position is based within a heavy manufacturing environment involving:

  • Exposure to heat and industrial noise. 

  • Working with lead-based manufacturing processes. 

  • Strict PPE, hygiene and contamination control procedures. 

  • Hands-on maintenance and occasional supervision of contractors during project work and commissioning activities.
