THE BUSINESS
Westray Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced Shift Electrical Maintenance Technician to join a well-established industrial organisation on a permanent basis in the County Durham area.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy, fast-paced operation where engineering plays a critical role in maintaining productivity, safety and operational performance.
The successful candidate will become part of a skilled engineering team responsible for maximising equipment availability, responding efficiently to breakdowns and delivering planned and preventative maintenance across the site.

THE ROLE
• Conduct planned, preventative and reactive electrical maintenance across site machinery and equipment
• Respond promptly to breakdowns and operational issues to minimise equipment downtime
• Diagnose electrical faults using schematics, wiring diagrams and appropriate diagnostic equipment
• Complete effective repairs and improvements within the shortest practical timescale
• Programme, modify and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
• Support the installation and commissioning of new machinery, equipment and system upgrades
• Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance activities comply with relevant safety standards
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, repairs, inspections and equipment performance
• Work closely with production and other departments to support the smooth operation of the facility
• Liaise with external contractors regarding specialist maintenance and repair work
• Support continuous improvement projects designed to increase reliability and operational efficiency
• Maintain a high level of equipment availability throughout the shift
• Keep up to date with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation
• Ensure company policies, procedures and engineering best practices are consistently followed
• Promote safe working practices and maintain high housekeeping standards at all times
THE PERSON
• Must hold a minimum Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
• Ideally time-served with a City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent electrical engineering qualification
• Proven electrical maintenance experience gained within an industrial, manufacturing, processing or similarly demanding environment
• Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic abilities
• Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
• Practical experience troubleshooting or programming PLC-controlled equipment
• A good level of mechanical knowledge alongside strong electrical expertise
• Experience completing planned, preventative and reactive maintenance
• Able to respond calmly and effectively to equipment breakdowns and operational pressures
• Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to maintenance
• Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing tasks
• Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider engineering and operational team
• Strong awareness of health, safety and environmental responsibilities
• Willing and able to work a rotating day and night shift pattern
