Electrical Quality Inspector
George Blake
Quality Inspector – Electronics Manufacturing
Location: Blackwater Valley / Hampshire–Surrey border
Job Type: Permanent
Sector: Engineering & Manufacturing
We are recruiting for an experienced Quality Inspector to join a well-established engineering and manufacturing business producing technically complex electronic and electro-mechanical products.
This is a hands-on quality position within a busy manufacturing environment and would suit someone who has previously inspected PCB assemblies, electronic components, cables, wiring or electro-mechanical assemblies.
Working closely with Production, Engineering and the wider Quality team, you will be responsible for ensuring manufactured and externally supplied products meet the required drawings, specifications and workmanship standards before progressing through production or being released for shipment.
The Role
As Quality Inspector, your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out incoming, in-process and final inspection of electronic and electro-mechanical products.
- Inspecting PCB assemblies, cables, components and assembled products against engineering drawings, specifications and workmanship standards.
- Conducting regular inspection activity across manufacturing and assembly areas to identify quality or workmanship issues at an early stage.
- Identifying component, assembly or drawing discrepancies and ensuring issues are accurately recorded and escalated.
- Reviewing associated manufacturing and supplier documentation, including relevant certification and traceability records.
- Recording inspection results accurately within the company's ERP / manufacturing systems.
- Raising and processing non-conformance or rejection documentation where products do not meet specification.
- Completing final product inspections and providing quality approval prior to release and dispatch.
- Ensuring products, packaging and accompanying documentation meet the required standards before leaving the facility.
- Working closely with Production and Engineering teams to investigate quality issues and prevent recurrence.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving product quality, manufacturing efficiency and process control.
- Maintaining high standards of health, safety and quality throughout all inspection activities.
What We're Looking For
Ideally, you will already have experience within an electronics, engineering or high-quality manufacturing environment, with a good understanding of inspection practices and manufacturing workmanship standards.
Experience or knowledge in the following areas would be particularly relevant:
- Inspection of PCB / PCBA assemblies.
- Surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole electronic assembly.
- Inspection of cables, wiring and electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- IPC-A-610 standards or equivalent electronics workmanship standards.
- ESD-controlled manufacturing environments.
- Non-conformance reporting and quality documentation.
- ERP or manufacturing management systems.
- Soldering or electronic assembly processes.
An IPC-A-610 qualification or certification would be highly advantageous, although candidates with strong practical electronics inspection experience are also encouraged to apply.
The Person
This role requires someone with a methodical approach and a naturally high level of attention to detail. You should be comfortable making quality decisions, challenging potential defects and working collaboratively with manufacturing colleagues to resolve issues.
You'll need to be organised, dependable and able to prioritise inspection activity in a production environment where maintaining both quality and manufacturing flow is important.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quality Inspector, Electronics Inspector, PCB Inspector or Manufacturing Quality Inspector looking to join a technically focused engineering operation on a permanent basis.
