Electrical Technician

We are seeking a proactive and skilled Electrical Technician to join our new formed team,  you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, testing, fault finding, and repair of electrical systems and equipment across construction projects, depots, and operational facilities. Based in Northampton (with travel to project sites as required). This is an exciting opportunity for a technically competent professional to support safe and efficient operations while ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, industry standards, and company procedures.

 

 

 Job Overview:

As the Electrical Technician you will be responsible for carrying out electrical installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repair activities on plant, equipment, tower cranes, site infrastructure, and associated electrical systems. You will support operational reliability, statutory compliance, and safe working practices while providing technical support to site teams, suppliers, and management.

 

Must have Qualifications: 

  • BS 7671 Electrical Regulations (18th Edition)
  • ECS (Electrotechnical Certification Scheme) Maintenance Electrician Gold Card
  • CPCS Plant Ticket (Blue Card)
  • Full UK Driving Licence

 

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in electrical installation, maintenance, inspection, fault finding and repair within industrial, construction, plant or lifting equipment environments
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, PLCs, control systems and fault diagnosis techniques
  • Experience carrying out inspection and testing in accordance with BS 7671
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical drawings and manufacturer documentation
  • Knowledge of tower cranes, lifting equipment, plant machinery, anti-collision systems and associated controls would be advantageous
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical faults efficiently
  • Experience producing maintenance records, inspection reports and certification documentation
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, environmental and quality standards
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise workload and respond effectively to breakdowns and emergency situations

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, inspect, test, maintain and repair electrical systems, equipment and associated control systems
  • Diagnose and rectify faults on electrical, electronic, PLC and control systems to minimise downtime and maintain operational reliability
  • Carry out electrical inspections and testing in accordance with BS 7671, statutory requirements and company procedures
  • Undertake electrical installations across industrial, commercial, construction and temporary works environments
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown repairs
  • Maintain, inspect and repair tower cranes, lifting equipment, plant, machinery and associated electrical safety systems
  • Ensure all work complies with current electrical regulations, health and safety legislation, and company quality standards
  • Complete maintenance records, inspection reports, test certificates, defect reports and other required documentation
  • Provide technical support during equipment installation, commissioning, operation, dismantling and decommissioning
  • Liaise with project teams, clients, suppliers and subcontractors to resolve technical issues and support project delivery
  • Assist with site surveys, inspections and technical assessments, providing recommendations where required
  • Identify defects, safety concerns and opportunities for improvement, escalating issues and recommending corrective actions
  • Participate in emergency breakdown response and out-of-hours support when required
