We are currently recruiting for an experienced Electrician to join a busy Maintenance Department within a well-established organisation in Cambridge.

This is a varied maintenance role covering a large and diverse property portfolio, including residential accommodation, offices, communal areas and other facilities. You will be responsible for delivering both reactive and planned electrical maintenance, ensuring electrical systems and equipment remain safe, compliant and operational.

The Role

As an Electrician, you will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out reactive electrical maintenance and fault finding.
  • Undertaking planned and preventative maintenance.
  • Inspecting and testing electrical installations, equipment and plant.
  • Carrying out PAT testing.
  • Installing, repairing, improving and rewiring electrical systems where required.
  • Testing and commissioning new installations.
  • Identifying electrical faults, hazards and non-compliant installations.
  • Maintaining accurate records of inspections, testing and completed works.
  • Planning electrical works and minimising disruption to building users.
  • Working with external contractors, consultants and specialist subcontractors.
  • Assisting with specifications and supervising subcontracted works where required.
  • Supporting and mentoring other members of the maintenance team, including an electrical apprentice.
  • Assisting other trades where appropriate and within your competence.
  • Responding to emergency maintenance requirements when required.
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely, professionally and to a high standard.
  • Providing a friendly and professional service to building users and colleagues.

About You

We are looking for an electrician who is technically capable, reliable and comfortable working independently within a busy maintenance environment.

You will ideally have:

Relevant electrical qualifications and solid experience as a maintenance electrician.

18th Edition qualification.

City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing, or an equivalent qualification, is desirable but not essential.

Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.

Experience of planned and reactive maintenance.

A good understanding of current electrical and Health & Safety regulations.

The ability to prioritise workloads and use your own initiative.

Good communication and customer service skills.

The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider multi-trade team.

A proactive, conscientious and reliable approach.

A willingness to assist with other maintenance duties where appropriate.

Experience supervising, mentoring or supporting apprentices would be advantageous.

A full, clean UK driving licence.

The role involves working at height, manual handling and, where required, working in confined spaces. You must therefore be comfortable working in a variety of environments and conditions.

There may also be an occasional requirement to work overtime or attend evening/weekend emergency call-outs.

£35,372 – £37,538 salary, dependent on experience and qualifications.

37.5 hours per week.
